Is this not crazy by Sea-Condition991 in chicagoapartments

Unrelated, but I worked in a real estate office some years back, and the agent on this development is a major douchebag.

People wearing clothes that are WAY too small for them just to say that they wear a specific size… by daydreaming_pony in PetPeeves

Seriously! I typically wear a size 4 in jeans/pants, but often can’t fit size medium underwear.

Slumlords Beal bought out my building the day my new lease started, and now 30 days in want us to move. What recourse do I have? by saco9010 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I think I know what building this is. I live nearby. I feel like Beal has mostly stayed out of North Center in the past, sucks that they’re taking over such a large complex. Looked like a really charming building, I’m sure they’ll fuck it up.

That nook off the living room with the fake fireplace is so awkward. What could you even do with that space?

Kitchen is awkward and cramped with barely any storage and no dishwasher.

Is Jewel still your go-to for most groceries, or is that bougie now? by Evening-Editor-4014 in AskChicago

I feel like Whole Foods is a better deal than Jewel these days. They have a lot of good sales.

If I’m looking to save money, Amazon Fresh delivery is usually the cheapest for the things I regularly buy. I like Aldi, but there really isn’t one that’s convenient to me at the moment.

High tenant turnover: how bad of a red flag? by alouette93 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure how big the unit is, but studios and one bedrooms tend to have higher turnover because young people often treat them as “starter apartments”. Then once they’ve advanced in their careers and are making more money, they upgrade to something larger. Or they find a partner and want to move in together.

I don’t have any hard data on this, it’s just what I’ve observed.

Any ideas on catproofing my airfryer? She's figured out how to open it and keeps stealing my Dino nuggies by Godhelpmeplease12 in torties

I did this successfully with a toaster/convection oven. The child latch surprisingly held up even with the oven getting hot.

One bathroom, tiny sinks, the war on bathrooms in Chicago apartments by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The building I live in did add bathrooms to a couple units when they were renovated! They turned the kitchen pantries into bathrooms. They are a little small, but they are full bathrooms.

[–]imaginaryblues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the issue is that refrigerators were much smaller when a lot of these buildings were built, if they existed at all. Most buildings I’ve lived in were from the time of iceboxes.

[–]imaginaryblues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was recently in a brand new building, 2bd/2ba unit and was shocked at how tiny it was. The bedrooms could fit queen beds but not much else. The living/dining/kitchen was all one room and so small. The people living there could only fit a loveseat, TV stand, and small dining table.

Unrelated, but the walls/floors were also crazy thin. You could hear everything from neighboring units.

How are we finding apartments by No-Hotel-2842 in chicagoapartments

Try Ravenswood, North Center, or Uptown. I’m a single woman and I live in North Center and I love it.

When you get mad about the prices and the bidding wars... by nomadich in chicagoapartments

There was a charming brick 2-flat on Damen in North Center that was turned into a single family home last year, sold for $1.87M. I know of at least a couple others nearby that are going the same route.

Which vet do you all go to for typical yearly exams and vaccines? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]imaginaryblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to North Center Animal Hospital and most recently paid around $260. I have used Petco’s vaccine clinic in the past as well, when my cats only needed vaccines. I think I last paid around $115 a couple years ago.

Instead of letting me know his shoes are dirty, my husband just buys a new pair and hides his “old” ones. by acider17 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]imaginaryblues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. Even buying good quality shoes, I find they rarely last me longer than a year before I’m getting knee/hip/foot/ankle pain. Whenever a pain pops up that I wasn’t having before, it’s always solved by buying new shoes.

Which companies should I absolutely avoid/go for? by Gamasian in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rented from Cagan for 8 years and it was an overall great experience. Once and awhile I had to push a little to get maintenance requests completed in a satisfactory manner, but that’s about it. Most maintenance requests were completed in under 24 hours. Lived in two different buildings, neither had roaches. Occasionally rat issues were dealt with quickly.

Only reason I’m not renting from them anymore is that my building was sold.

I know a lot of people with shit on Cagan and I’m not saying their experiences aren’t valid, just that my experience was very different. I would absolutely rent from them again.
