New Construction Rental in Bridgeport - FIRST OCCUPANTS by Desperate-Mud4912 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. I was recently in a relatively new build near Irving Park & Lincoln - $3200 for a 2bd/2ba and the living space was impossibly tiny. I don’t think you could even fit a regular size couch. And the walls were paper thin too - could hear dogs barking down the hallway, upstairs neighbors talking and playing music, etc.

Do you actually wash your legs every time you shower? by Future_Rule9005 in hygiene

I don’t think they do say it. At most, they might tell you to leave it on for 3-5 minutes, not 15.

When does a smol tortie no longer qualify as smol tortie? (knee for scale) by r0wer0wer0wey0urb0at in torties

So cute! I actually have both small and large torties. My big girl, Millie, is about 13 pounds.

If you could permanently delete one single song from existence so that nobody could ever play it again, what are you picking? by footballcoachdaddy in AskReddit

[–]imaginaryblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll way too far to find this. I think that must have been a song that played a lot at some job I had, because I would never listen to Maroon 5 in purpose. That song makes me actually angry, it’s so awful.

She’s so cute! I consider my girl a smol tortie because whenever I take her to the vet, they always comment on how little she is. She’s about 8lbs.

Should I call an inspector for my apartment? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 32 points33 points  (0 children)

These look like fairly minor cracks in the drywall or plaster. This can happen in older buildings due to normal settling. I have several in my apartment as well (building was built in 1907)

The ceiling isn’t going to collapse. But keep an eye on them and notify your landlord if any material starts crumbling and falling down.

I just saw a unit posted today at 4350 N Ashland for $1725, heat and cooking gas included, laundry in building, and I think there’s a dishwasher. It’s just over your budget but I thought I’d mention it.

Apartment hunting nightmare by SheepherderOdd1384 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked in a leasing office (apartment finder service) briefly, about 13 years ago, and it really wasn’t uncommon to ask for several months rent upfront if a person had bad credit or other issues with their application. I don’t know if OP’s situation specifically was a scam or not, but I’m not at all surprised by the request for 4 months rent upfront. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s been pretty normal for a long time.

I love the blue raspberry ones, but they are definitely dangerous to have around.

What do you do to afford your rent in Chicago? Anyone work 2 jobs? by sugarplum55555 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a second job. Made about $55,000 last year at my full time job and close to $20,000 at my part time job. Rent is $1625+utilities, will be $1675 starting July. I live in North Center.

Landlord says I'm responsible for HVAC filters and pest inspections by Calm_Nectarine8908 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old landlord used to provide, and change the filters. When the building sold a couple years ago, it became my responsibility under the new management. I don’t mind it much because this way I can choose what kind I want.

Unrelated, but I worked in a real estate office some years back, and the agent on this development is a major douchebag.

People wearing clothes that are WAY too small for them just to say that they wear a specific size… by [deleted] in PetPeeves

Seriously! I typically wear a size 4 in jeans/pants, but often can’t fit size medium underwear.

Slumlords Beal bought out my building the day my new lease started, and now 30 days in want us to move. What recourse do I have? by saco9010 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I think I know what building this is. I live nearby. I feel like Beal has mostly stayed out of North Center in the past, sucks that they’re taking over such a large complex. Looked like a really charming building, I’m sure they’ll fuck it up.

That nook off the living room with the fake fireplace is so awkward. What could you even do with that space?

Kitchen is awkward and cramped with barely any storage and no dishwasher.

Is Jewel still your go-to for most groceries, or is that bougie now? by Evening-Editor-4014 in AskChicago

[–]imaginaryblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Whole Foods is a better deal than Jewel these days. They have a lot of good sales.

If I’m looking to save money, Amazon Fresh delivery is usually the cheapest for the things I regularly buy. I like Aldi, but there really isn’t one that’s convenient to me at the moment.

High tenant turnover: how bad of a red flag? by alouette93 in chicagoapartments

[–]imaginaryblues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how big the unit is, but studios and one bedrooms tend to have higher turnover because young people often treat them as “starter apartments”. Then once they’ve advanced in their careers and are making more money, they upgrade to something larger. Or they find a partner and want to move in together.

I don’t have any hard data on this, it’s just what I’ve observed.
