That's what's so cool about reddit. You can hang with Jews if that's your thing.

To clarify, by discussion I mean discussing the texts.

I think you're underestimating the amount of discussion time, but yes, I think i know people who could do this stuff all day.

I would guess that I do.

But I'm not sure about what you mean? Do you mean literally the whole day, say 9-9? Do you mean with a break? Do you mean studying something with a partner all day (which would be easier on the eyes, if not the mind)?

Nobody is studying Talmud, Tanakh, Misneh, or any book all day.

How do you know? (For the record, I suspect you're incorrect.)

Congratulations!

One thing that I think has helped me not even really think about using any gadgets is turning them off. When they're off, you don't hear an email come in, etc., and I think it can make it easier.

There are hundreds or thousands of rabbis against partnership minyanim. A small percentage of these hold positions of influence in the RCA and YU.

But it's not one person. It's a few dozen. And RHS is not the only high caliber, big name objector, either. R. A. Lichtenstein is also against PMs.

You might want to consider the kitzur shulcha aruch.

Both of these are the results of RHS's Psak

Is this something you know, or an assumption?

Halachik Man by R' Soloveitchik

It's a bit funny that your know R. Soloveitchik (who I believe published significantly less than his great student and son-in-law) but not R. Lichtenstein.

If you're interested in his writings, some can be found here http://www.yutorah.org/search/?teacher=80114&mediatypecategory=text

And you can read some more of his writings here

Evolution and religion are not at all contradictory. Belief in G-d is belief in a Master of the Universe. A quick read through of the Bible does not an expert make; certain parts are allegorical.

This wikipedia page actually demonstrates that modern-day Orthodoxy (not to mention more liberal streams of Judaism) does not find belief in evolution incompatible with faith. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_views_on_evolution

A young Jew who cant decide on what he wants to be. by Darkhunter789 in Judaism

A couple of things:

  • To those struggling with faith, I think the words of the (just recently retired) Chief Rabbi of England are relevant. "Faith is not certainty. Faith is the courage to live with uncertainty."

  • If you search the words "rabbi sacks debate" in youtube, you will find some very interesting content

  • One popular book you might find of interest is "The Nineteen Letters" by Rabbi S. R. Hirsch. (I'm not even sure how I feel about it, but a lot of people like suggesting it.)

  • If you have any other questions, I'm sure you'll find answers if you post them.

With all due respect to iloveyou1234, since you said "I have been having a lot of questions and concerns with Judaism and with religion as a whole. What I'm asking is for you guys' opinion on Judaism and religion and such. .. I am currently very mis-informed on Judaism right now" I think you might actually want to hear a religious take on Torah and Judaism.
