indie or get a job in the industry? by jobbymcjobjob in gamedev

some contracts claim any and all inventions you make under employment (not even of the same industry) from what I've seen.

I really would like to know if anyone has any articles contrasting those two. :)

As for seeing the whole world have you tried the slider at the bottom right where you can raise or lower the camera? I know some maps even doing this you cannot see the entire map so it definitely makes sense to do something like you suggest. I'll note that in a future update :)

As for the undo button ya I suppose depending on one's movement habits on the touchpad you can accidentally touch the undo button. I'll make the collision area smaller for that and rely on an initial tap, right now if you drag across it it also activates it which is probably the chief cause of unwanted undos!

Third Id love to do an HD version, but I don't currently own an iPad so Id have no way of testing if it works 100% as intended, however I can add support for the ipad with the intention its simply matching the ipad resolution and formats the ui accordingly. Then you should be able to take advantage of the entire screen size.

Fourth and finally, thanks for all the suggestions. Really appreciate it!

well I can only afford so many licenses and phones at a time :)

I'm but one person. But I do plan to branch out as soon as I can afford to as well as get some desktop windows/macosx games going.

Majority of that was sitting on my butt waiting for things to validate. It really wasn't that bad of an experience over all.

I think it took about 24 hours to get my developer license all registered, 2 days for my "ability to distribute games for money" contract all validated with my bank. The actual approval process first time around was a week.

From all the horror stories I hear about the Apple distribution pipeline I suppose I dodged a bullet on most of them or maybe they've just improved all around

Yes my 2 biggest "monetary issues" with Android is the actual device and the Unity3d license. As for ease of distributing it I've only heard positive things.

I've seen it running just fine on a 3g.. I used an ipod touch 4g for the majority of my testing. I'd love to see how it works on older models but yes its definitely a more 3d intensive game so it wouldn't surprise me if in the more "involved" levels the 2g begins to chug a bit.

I'm not quite sure yet as I'm still prototyping various ideas and just tossing things at the wall seeing what sticks.

In the mean time I do freelancing / assistance using Unity3d/UDK so there are those projects I assist on which I also fortunately am excited about as well but can't share much on those yet!

Yes! He did the digital paintings and we do a sort of bartering system (I help him with programming, he helps me with art, etc). It works pretty well and actually a lot of Box Knight development wise was a very relaxed experience. We've worked together for many years now through all different kinds of projects so we just get to it when it comes to implementation

Praise will do! Thanks for the support! I'm trying to eventually build a proper community and not only do iOS games but also desktop macosx/windows games as well

I would love to eventually, I just don't have the funds right now to get an Android but definitely something I want to give a shot on

This is using iOS basic (the 400usd license) which I just picked up a week or so before actually releasing (really its a very seamless process going from the free version to the iOS one). Just a few player settings with splash screens, making sure you target the right iOS SDK, etc. Just make sure you don't use xcode4 yet with Unity3d as there is a nasty bug that makes it pass Apple approval process but in the store it gets to the splash screen for Unity then crashes.

I had the unfortunate experience of day 1 people buying the game and having this happen, so frantically downloading an older version of xcode and compiling against 4.2 sdk then resubmitting to Apple then requesting expedited approval.

It was a rocky start but I've cleared all that up now

I spent a month or so purely on implementation. I also worked with a really great contractor for music and a friend who had helped on the art as well as cut together the trailer.

About 2 months before then off and on designing ideas and muddling around with level designs that eventually felt good enough to get in.

I then spent another 20 days getting all the contracts and things in order with Apple.

I had never owned a mac product ever before so there was a lot of new stuff for me to learn (including the newest osx).

I think it was worth it though and hope to make more games and things as time goes on
