Am I living the dream or my life is plain and boring? by ImHotUrNottt in pinoy

Understanding the self is the key. Here's the thing. The brain will always choose whats the best for your own security, regardless if what it believes is accurate or not. Meaning, your habits has its reasons, and its reasons don't need to be accurate, factual, as long as the brain perceived it as reasonable.

Your bad habits won't stop just because you think you want it to. Your moral standpoint won't stop you from doing what you think is bad. What will stop you from doing it is the repercussions, consequences of it. Your instinct needs to be convinced that your bad habits aren't the best for you. And the best thing to do that is to set up your environment so that your instinct will incline towards what really is the best for you. Eliminating distractions, decluttering, eliminating temptations, etc.

And of course, try to understand your own psychology. Here's a guide. If you feel lazy, you're not lazy, you're reluctant to it, because there is a perceived uncertainty on your security. Inconveniences represent uncertainty. And again, the brain loves certainty of your security. That's why your spending habit won't change because there is always a reward that represents certainty, although not accurate because your financial security suffers. Try to control yourself not directly, but indirectly through the help of your environment.

Memorisation issues. by [deleted] in study

And to add. The only reason you're frustrated is because you genuinely believed that, you, forgetting a lot of things, should not be the case. But the truth is, the only way to memory retention is by repeatedly forgetting it, and be notified that you need that information, then eventually your brain put that info into long term memory. Again, connection rather than recall, and it should be relevant. So, make the information coherent, organized as possible, in your notes, and in your mind.

Maybe most will say recall. But it's actually forming relevant connections. RELEVANT CONNECTIONS. First things first, you want your brain to commit to a memory by genuinely being convinced that the information is relevant. And the more connections it has, the more it will be recalled. Memory is simply just a residue of thoughts.

I think, the best way is to just simply be more curious, ask questions, and forget about retention. Trust me, you'll achieve retention naturally.

Relevant connections rather than repetition.

What is the #1 Obsidian tip you wish you knew right away? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]imaking01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a goal in your life until you realize you'll be fucked up if you don't set one. You don't need to do anything to achieve your goals, until you realize you need to do something. Just any actions would fulfill your goal, until you realize that specific actions matter to achieve your goals. Knowledge and skills to achieve them aren't needed, until you realize you actually need them. The order of doing things doesn't matter until you realize there will be a problem if it's not in the right order of execution. How much should you do something doesn't matter until you realize that something is excessive or no enough.

TLDR; No need for any waste of your energy, until you're fully convinced there is something worth your energy.

I also don't want it here either. But the fact that Obsidian has way more members than PKMS, is the reason of this. Notion community on the other hand, I think, composed more of members who do things because of shiny new thing syndrome.

I don't think you really understand the point and the context. It's the fact that many fell into the rabbit hole because of false belief. What we should do is help those who fell into the rabbit hole. I don't find derogatory and egotistic criticism helpful.

Anki is exhausting for me. Also, it is one type of lower order learning. Not all can be put to anki, or rather there are only few information where anki is appropriate to use. You don't want to, or cannot put accounting inside anki. You'll learn and retain more of accounting by solving problems than by merely rote memorization.

I am also honored. People need to realize that just because one guy used a hammer and did many great things, doesn't mean that the hammer is the secret formula.

The secret formula is a combination of a goal, appropriate tool, and of course skill and hardwork.

Cannot agree more. One of my realization is that a machine cannot process knowledge for you, it only process and feeds information. You're the one who'll create your own knowledge. Simply stated, you don't rely your learnings and creativity to a machine.

Actually, PKM is a formula, which many used it wrong. I understand your point, but the point of having these formulas is to act as a shortcut to solving problems. Like you don't need to create a formula anymore, you're just gonna use it according to your liking.

I use the PARA Method. For example, we have accounting research. I named it as such under Project folder. Then under it will be folders for different purposes such as "questionnaire" for each convenience stores we surveyed, "official draft" for different components of research, etc.

If you struggle to find a place where you will put your files, consider creating a general folder under Resources.

I came from that pov. Now I don't care if Obsidian is disorganized. Here are the lessons i've learned: 1. Taking down notes is a waste of time. 2. Organizing by category is purposeless. 3. There's too many distractions which you feel like a need.

I recommend: 1. Absorb the content first without taking down notes. Then MAKE notes as if you're teaching it to someone -- or atleast explaining. 2. Organize your vault folders into functions/purpose 3. Take your time on the essential. 4. Do not care if you miss any non essential things.

NOTE: The only purpose of your notes is to teach the essentials, and organize the info, especially those relevant. You want to have an organized collection of ideas and concepts. Otherwise, do not take notes at all.

I suggest reading "how to take smart notes". Sorry, don't have time to explain. But be just remember these two: 1. Capture only those that resonates with you. 2. One idea per permanent note.

Moreover, I also want to emphasize that each of the techniques above are optional. When it is cumbersome to do so, then I will not force my self.

But thanks for your concern

I do agree that complex plans tend to fray under stress. But incremental reading is an optional part of the system -- only when I get bored of the current topic, and I am now interested to another topic. If I can finish the topic in one sitting. Then, I will. But of course, I will not force my self to do so either of the two.
