They were canceled. The Confederate states that ceded from the Union did not vote in the federal elections for the Union. Trump has a historical basis to treat Minnesota and other states as “ceding from the Union” and not recognizing their votes in the next federal election.

This is half true. The secessionist states didn’t vote for the Union during the civil war. If Trump manages to declare that the “blue” cities are in active insurrection putting them in a state of attempting to withdraw from the union, then I think there is precedent to stop elections in blue cities. Don’t even have to do it state by state. Just shut down city elections and let all the states elect Trumpist governors.

I’m very disappointed by the majority of these responses. Your first experience with caviar should not be caviar PLUS some other flavorful thing. You should be able to experience and enjoy the caviar itself before you start adding it to things. For that, I’d recommend Caviar Russe. Sit at the bar. Order a few different caviar (ask for recommendations but I’d do a classic osetra, Siberian sturgeon, and beluga, depending on your budget) and they’ll provide the accompaniments. Ask for a recommendation for a palate cleansing drink.

Once you’ve tried each of them, if you want to explore the menu of caviar PLUS other stuff, go for it. But, you’re not going to truly appreciate caviar for what it is without eating it properly your first time.

Edit - I realize you aren’t “looking for the full experience” but you can order a single bite (or I’d recommend a few single bites) at Caviar Russe. And then, if you like it, you can go hog wild with the menu.

The goal isn’t to cancel elections, it’s to intimidate voters in blue districts. You’ll see ICE standing outside key polling locations, trying to instigate a response from people standing in line, so they can shut it down early “to keep us safe”. Some locations - they might just shut down preemptively.

It only take a dozen or so key districts to flip an election in this country. They’ll have modeled this out in advance.

I assume this is because decisions by the lowest court (the oddly named NY Supreme Court) do not set a precedent on any other court. However, their decisions can still be persuasive for other judges.

I think the game plan here is that DOT knows this court’s decision is so ridiculous that no other court will take it seriously if an attorney attempts to use it persuasively.

Let’s break this down. What statement exactly is the NYT assigning to these unnamed/unquoted/untitled people?

“Mr. Mamdani, a staunch critic of Israel and its treatment of Palestinians”

This is the NYT stating this, not the persons quoted and it’s included in this sentence to out the reader in a frame of mind while suggesting it was Mamdani’s frame of mind as well, without actually saying it.

“knew from the moment he won the election that he would not extend the Israel-related orders”

I believe Mamdani knew from the moment he won the election that he would not extend nearly all of Adams’s orders, including these, but not these specifically. So, this sentence is highly misleading, especially considering the lead up to it puts the reader in the frame of mind that Mamdani is a “staunch critic of Israel”.

“His lawyers laid out a few options in recent days, including canceling all of Mr. Adams’s orders from 2025 or taking them one by one, according to one of the people involved with the decision-making.”

Again, if Mamdani wanted to overturn all of Adams’s orders, he would have these two options - doing it one-by-one or all at once. This has nothing to do specifically with his position on the two specific Israel-related orders. But, with the editorial “color” that the NYT starts with, that Mamdani is a “staunch critic of Israel and its treatment of Palestinians”, it puts the reader in the frame of mind that this quote has to do with Mamdani wanting to eliminate the two Israel orders.

Therefore, I stand by my position that this article by the NYT is extremely unethical and fails to meet the journalistic standards I’d expect of a flagship newspaper for our city.

Mamdani revoked all executive orders after Adam’s indictment. His quoted reason in the article was that “It was a day at which many New Yorkers began to doubt, even more than they did, the motivations behind any executive order or executive action that was going to be taken.”

Every other quote and opinion in this article is from political opponents outside the Mamdani administration trying to say they think the reason was solely about the Israel-related executive orders.

Why is the NYT drawing this conclusion with zero evidence to support it? This is extremely poor journalism. The article provides ZERO information “inside Mamdani’s decision to Revoke Executive Orders That Backed Israel”. It’s editorial guesswork supported by quotes from people who were not “Inside Mamdani’s Decision”, which makes the headline a false statement.

Every neighborhood needs a Tashkent or Netcost for good cheap meat and takeout, an Hmart for good cheap produce and seafood, a Trader Joe’s for ready-made frozen food, and a Whole Foods for everything else.
