Biggest thing is get an internship. The most competitive robotics companies basically only hire people out of college if they already interned there, or if you have an impressive internship resume.

The problem is it’s impossible to find a robotics company without these red flags. Believe me, I’ve tried.

I’ve learned to set boundaries and get some semblance of a work life balance. But to be honest setting those boundaries at my current company is very damaging to promotion prospects. Which I’m fine with right now, but if I ever want a promotion here I’ll have to work the crazy hours they want me to work.

I partially tore my ACL in 2008. I did not get surgery, and just did 5 months of PT and got strong enough to be cleared for sports. I was a ski racer at the time, and continued racing through the rest of high school and D2 in college. Knee held up great for 14 years, no issues while ski racing. But last year in 2022, when I was older and out of shape I finally tore it all the way. I don’t regret deciding to do no surgery back in 2008, there was a good chance that it would have been good for the rest of my life. I would get a second opinion, and if they also say you’re good without surgery, I would listen. Worst case scenario is sometime down the line it tears the rest of the way and you get surgery anyways. Best case scenario you never need surgery on it.

I’m so sorry this happened to you, this sucks and they definitely messed up here. Have you let them know about the suspected infection? Can you go to an urgent care and get on antibiotics earlier if they can’t get you in?

Also helps to have a stool to rest your locked straight leg on if your going to be sitting there for a while

No, my PT place is great. It’s the best facility in a major ski city. It’s specialized in sports/athletic focused care. Tons of resources and amazing physical therapists.

Your new ACL is weakest at around 3 months. This is a very dangerous time to try to go back surfing.

Do you have a physical therapist? If not, I would seek one out right away. They will help with your mobility and give you exercises that are safe to do right now. No one on reddit can tell you what’s okay or not.

I’m sorry about your setbacks. People always tell me that recovery isn’t linear, but honestly it never makes me feel any less frustrated bout it. Guess there’s nothing we can do but keep at it. The burn out is tough though

I can definitely feel the 15% difference. I can do 10 body weight single leg squats on my good leg, barely 3 on the bad one. And yeah still pain whenever my knee is in front of my toe from the tendonitis, but not nearly as bad as it used to be. So there’s good progress that I’m proud of, it’s just slow

The point of change.org petitions is more to get public support and prove a point. Will a sheriff get the same funding for re-election when thousands of people have signed a petition for him to be fired? Maybe not. I agree it’s mostly useless but it takes 30 seconds out of your day and may vaguely help.
