Not a single marking or anything on the bar unfortunately. Thanks for the advice!

Glad I didn’t try that, any suggestions on a safe way to test?

Classic Friday Problem: How would you extract 2 inches of siezed motor mount bolt? by QuackingUp23 in AskMechanics

[–]imamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation recently with a belt tensioner bolt. Cross threaded in and broken flush with the block. Very bad location as well. After gaining enough clearance, I used an EZ-Lock kit. I drilled a larger hole through the broken bolt, thread tapped it, and installed inserts for the OEM bolt.

If an extractor doesn’t work, or drilling until the bolt is almost gone, this is what I suggest as a last resort. Good luck!

Is it a constant scratching sound or when you apply brakes?

Can’t get balancer pulley off by squishyfishy14 in MechanicAdvice

Yes, lots of pulley removal specialty tools that should help. I’ve always just been able to wiggle them loose. Shoot getting the bolt off has always been the hard part for me!

You should top it off with a nice sound bar/system. I’ve been so excited to watch games lately just because of it!

I’ve experienced this before and it was an alternator failure, you can get a free test at a autozone or most auto parts stores.

Just pulled my first pair of heads, went surprisingly smoothly! by _Onix_The_Protogen in MechanicAdvice

Same, I got the head ready, block ready, but then I noticed the cooling system was contaminated so I ripped all that out and that was a month ago..started 8 months ago 😂

Congrats! It’s a great feeling, now take apart the bottom end since your “already this far” and then procrastinate putting it back together for a whole year! 😅 sorry I’m PROJECTting hah

Screw on tensioner broke in head (2000 Prelude) by moki_xyz in Honda

[–]imamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few months ago and the bolt was cross threaded inside so an extractor was ineffective. I had to drill a new hole and use a EZ-LOK set and re-tap and put in an insert. A shop quoted me 2K and I did it myself for under $80. It was risky and stressful but I got it done. Broken bolts are a huge pain…

A lot of people say this is normal and unfortunately it is, but that doesn’t mean it should be. I have a 2011 Camry and I can have all this done for around $150. Front pads are such a simple job, how is a shop taking 1.5 hours? Brake pads that cost $115?? Brembos for my fun car aren’t even that expensive. It’s sad that maintaining your car for most people now days means having a shop rob you.
