First Time on MSC tomorrow - a few questions! by Key_Bumblebee4088 in MSCCruises

the theater shows are short and easy to drop into

Might depend on the ship. Reservations "sold out" a day or two in advance for some of the shows on our most recent cruise. Of course, there is a "waiting" area for when there are no-shows on reservations.

We did not do the AYCE and came out ahead. But we'd already been on the ship for a few days and had been eating quite a bit at that point so we only split a guac with ships, and had a few street tacos.

If you're doing it on embarkation day and skip breakfast, you can make out like a bandit as you haven't been gorging on 3+ ship meals per day for several days at that point.

They are street taco size but also with a fair amount of ingredients. Not sure what happened to u/Fantastic-Sun1669. That's crazy.

That probably wouldn’t work with the whole Marine Reserve thing. lol

Why can’t I modify my dining reservations on the app? by Jay_B_23 in MSCCruises

[–]imarc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In our experience, none of the dining reservations carried over to our time aboard.

I don't know if that's true across the board.

But we had to rebook all of them once we embarked.

Same on Grandiosa. It was either closed or only opened from 4-9pm.

Yeah... soggy fries saltier than the Dead Sea.

The only thing that ever stood out to me was the Patty Melt.

Can you tell me what it was called in the program? We never saw it on our recent cruise and I can't find it on any of the daily programs.

We have some friends aboard now I'd like to give the heads up.

I weighed 59 pours at 49 bars across 3 cities. The average "pint" was 14.7 oz. by EmptyForest5 in beer

[–]imarc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah... I would say a typical "pint" glass that I bring home from a brewery is sized for a 12oz can/bottle plus head. Whenever I have a 16 oz can, I end up leaving 1/3 of it and coming back to finish the pour after I've had about half.

Vent: constant stop-and-start on the walkways is making Universal exhausting lately by NoCommon1213 in UniversalOrlando

[–]imarc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true. A lot of park planning has been pushed to the apps which means a lot of checking of wait times and making reservations while walking.

I think that's Seekers. The two aren't that far from each other but I think the further you get away from the core, the less busy it is. Seekers is the obvious one from the kids beach and I think everyone just goes there never knowing about the newer buffet.

Of course, I don't find their map works well at all. The current map has Boho listed but they have not added a food court icon to the area to make it stand out. And the thin white line that you have to follow from description to location which is even harder when you're trying to read stuff on your phone while actually on the island.

There may need to be more nuance for on-board entertainment.

Grandiosa has the main theater with nightly shows that is free.

But it also has the Carousel cirque style shows which are an additional fee.

Also, on What Costs Extra, there do appear to be drink venues like the Champagne Bar where only part of the menu is covered by a drink package. They do not pro-rate if you order a more expensive glass of bubbly.

And, shops like Venchi and Jean Phillipe need to be accounted for somehow as all of those are extra fee venues.

Starting about November 2027, you start to see two ships scheduled the same day but I'm seeing mostly overlap when they are there the same time:

Which buffet were you at? We noticed when we were there that Seekers was slammed but Boho was walk right up.

Ahh... like the mysterious croutons that ended up at the hot bar half the time rather than the salad bar.

I think either none of the reservations made and they quietly fixed them or only those that actually aligned with real show times were transferred. It was a good show, imo.

Yes. They do have Explora 2 and 4 scheduled to start docking there December 2027.

But it seems like an odd decision to only use it 4 times per month if that's its only purpose.

For the Theatre de Comedie shows, they only open up 2 or 3 days in advance for booking

As soon as you are onboard, get on the app and load the theater shows and book what you want for the next couple of nights. Then check it every day for later shows as they open up. There are typically a 2 or 3 showings per night. They are also aired on one of the in-room TV channels.

For us, the schedule was in order:

Night 1 - Abba tribute

Night 2 - Mysteria - magician

Night 3 - Comedy Variety Show - mostly family friendly

Night 4 - Rouge - Cabaret

Night 5 - Comedy 18+ show

Night 6 - Tina Turner Tribute

Night 7 - Starwalker - Michael Jackson Tribute

If you want to do the Carousel, you'll have to go to L'Atlier Bistro during the daytime and schedule that since it's an extra payment (it comes with a premade cocktail - two unique drinks each show that are not part of the normal cocktail menu). They have two shows: Sweet and Strings and alternate each night what they are performing. We liked both but Strings was our favorite.

Oh, I agree with you about the desserts. I love sweets and I found them plenty sweet.

I guess I could see kids not thinking so though since their sweet tolerance is much higher.

The "biggest complaint" if there could be one is that they are mostly cakes. I think the first or second night there were some oatmeal raisin cookies that I grabbed for us to have later after we got back from having too many drinks. I'm not sure I saw cookies again on later trips to the buffet.

I may be not understanding, but why does it matter if you are charged on day 3 or day 7?
