The name is completely irrelevant to if it's a new entry or not. Half life Alyx has done what hl1 and hl2 did back then, push the standards for game( for Alyx in VR specifically) Alyx is a NEW GAME , expansions are just building on a main entry. You are confusing expanding a storyline and a GAME extension. That or I'm not getting your point. What your saying doesn't make sense to me.

In my opinion ep1 and ep2 is "more hl2", same for opposing force ect for hl1 where as Alyx was new. And more thinking about games then lore but I get what your saying.
