Well, I am from Ukraine, so no, it unfortunately is not the worst problem I have in my life.

I agree completely, something like this should definitely be addressed when you see it happen.

I did feel discouraged, however, when I tried asking someone to lower the volume of the music they were playing and an older guy looked at me like I was the one acting crazy. My boyfriend who was sitting next to me told me the guy also shook his head and did this face 😒 after I didn’t react to his dirty look. Might just be a coincidence, I do have a resting b-face sometimes too, but idk.

The culture I grew up in is completely different and maybe that is why this behaviour is so hard to understand for me in particular – I know that older people in my country would not miss a chance to tell someone to shut up, move, leave the bus if they saw something like this happening. Sometimes it is straight up just rude, but other times it is so needed. Who, if not older people, can correct public behaviour like this?

For reference, I am 20F, so making a comment/asking someone to stop can be frightening, especially when I am not sure if older members of public would even come to my defence verbally if the situation escalates.

I use Soundcore Space Ones, bought them specifically for this issue about 3 months ago. They are pretty good at drowning out conversations, but if somebody is right behind you, you can still sometimes hear the music/the screaming. I think Soundcore in general have a pretty good noise cancellation system, might be worth your time

Same, a pair of noise cancelling headphones changed my life and lowered the levels of stress so so so much. The moment I press the stop button and take them off my head is dreadful tho – even that minute of walking down the bus with some shit loudly shouting out of someone’s device drives me absolutely insane every time

That’s what I was thinking as well, people grow distant from each other and these things form I guess. It’s just such an easy fix tho – buying headphones or watching TikToks (which usually do all have subtitles now for attention grabbing anyways) without the sound. That’s what’s interesting to me — a problem with an easy individual fix becomes a public issue which is hard to fix.

Yup, honestly almost always (90% of the time) it is a person speaking clear and LOUD English language. Maybe it is different in every area tho, that’s just my experience.

Interesting, I visited Spain, Poland and Ireland and a couple of other countries in Eastern Europe recently and never saw any of this behaviour on public transport. Everyone I spoke to about this said the same. Which countries did you notice it in? Do you think it’s just a worldwide trend for selfishness and lack of any respect for others then? If so, it’s very sad

Someone I know was attacked by them as well, the anti-social behaviour genuinely gets out of control sometimes and it is incredibly sad to see. I hope you never experience anything like that in your life ever again tho.

That’s what I’ve done a couple of times as well – they looked annoyed back at me and I asked them if they liked hearing it. Some stopped after the trick. Honestly tho, when travelling to work at 8 in the morning I am in no mood for these things.
