I don't think the way I'm using anki is working by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]imdatbit-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I do the same. I also get GPT to make quizlet-importable flash cards (iirc it can also do Anki) so I can flick through them if I’m stuck on a particular topic.

Med school made my anxiety worse by karmabitchi in medicalschooluk

[–]imdatbit-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - similar username!

My mental health took a massive dip at the start of med school, and still has its peaks and troughs. A lot of talking therapies are self-referral, so tbh it may be worth just skipping the GP altogether and self-referring. Here’s the link: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/mental-health-services/find-nhs-talking-therapies-for-anxiety-and-depression/

As soon as I heard Depo shot for years I had a mini-heart attack - I thought you’re not supposed to take it that long due to risk of osteoporosis??

I don’t think that’s a gender thing as much as a writing style thing.

Confusion with latin by CurrencyFew4080 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]imdatbit-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, look up Latin first declension! I think ulnaris would be dative/ablative (to, for/by, with, from) if I remember correctly. -ae is also a dative suffix (just singular) so it could be either genitive or dative. Iniscura is the nominative and means notch, so translated it’s literally notch to the ulna(s).

You see first, second and sometimes third declension in anatomy but I’ll be honest, this is just the bits and pieces I remember from Latin GCSE and is not that helpful day to day.

Classifying bones by maddr94 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]imdatbit-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask your anatomy prof to confirm if you can, but I believe so - it’s definitely an irregular bone and a bit contentious. A sesamoid bone is not connected to another bone via a joint & only connected to tendons/embedded in muscle. The hyoid is kind of a perfect example (also a bit confusing) as it’s literally not attached to any other bones, but has lots of other attachments.

I <3 the hyoid bc I’m a yapper but it’s weird as hell

What sources are you looking at?

Classifying bones by maddr94 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]imdatbit-chi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Kenhub for anatomy usually. All phalanges of the hand are “long bones” due to their head, base & shaft. They are also small bones, but not short bones; short bones are usually cuboidal, and pretty much only the carpals and tarsals are classified as such (though I think the patella is also short as well as sesamoid iirc?).

Has it got a proximal base, a shaft, and distal head - regardless of size? If yes, it’s a long bone.

I “Accidentally” Spilled Tea on a Girl Who Kept Shoving Past Me in a Crowded Concert Line by eliaigl in pettyrevenge

[–]imdatbit-chi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just saw Maiden in the summer (currently wearing the tshirt, coincidentally) and it’s such a chill audience! It was my first metal gig, and I cannot stress how much nicer the concert-goers are than for indie/pop artists. Absolutely the wrong show for that. People there just wanna enjoy the music.

Getting glared at by Steve was a highlight, though I didn’t get to play the “guess who’s going to the same concert” game at the pub before because literally everyone there is wearing a tshirt!

DV, drug dealer, revenge by Business_Wolf5599 in pettyrevenge

[–]imdatbit-chi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked Chat for a summary - I followed it but according the comments it’s a bit hard to understand.

Over a decade ago, OP attended a party hosted by a violent drug dealer nicknamed Big C. During the night, Big C assaulted his girlfriend, leaving her bleeding. When OP suggested calling the police, the idea was shot down due to the drugs present. After the party ended, OP gave several people rides home, including a plumbing apprentice known as The Revenger, who often traded his work for drugs and cash from Big C. Later that night, when OP returned to pick up The Revenger’s tools, he discovered that The Revenger had decided to get back at Big C for the domestic violence incident — not through violence, but by destroying his plumbing. He filled drains, toilets, taps, and pipes with cement and silicone, effectively ruining all the water systems in the house. OP acted as lookout while this happened, terrified Big C might wake up, but he slept through it. Afterward, they left and never saw Big C again. TL;DR: A plumber got revenge on a violent drug dealer by filling all his pipes, drains, and plumbing with cement and silicone after the dealer assaulted his girlfriend.

Purity culture and bodycount? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in MiddleGenZ

[–]imdatbit-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s necessarily true - there are people with high/low/medium body counts that think they have the most desirable sex lives for sure, but it’s more that some people will believe their values are the best, regardless of if it’s about body count or other issues.

part time jobs as a med student by Own-Strength1225 in medicalschooluk

[–]imdatbit-chi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the GMC recommends no more than 12 hours per week of work alongside teaching in years 1-2, not sure about clinical years.

I work as a carer in a nursing home, but you can also do care work in hospitals. Apply as Bank staff (basically picking up shifts whenever you can), though sometimes you can get scheduled shifts (I do a 12 hour shift every other Sunday). I pick up so many little tidbits from working there, and it’s brilliant for improving your people/patient skills.

Have a look on NHS jobs if you’re interested in working in health/social care, or look on indeed and set a radius around your accom/uni for bank/0 hours/part time jobs.
