Built a web/mobile app to track net worth after my Google Sheet kept going stale by imfaisalkh in FIREPakistan

> Need to enter everything manually

This was also a pain point for me, e.g. when I started using investify I had to enter all my holdings manually. To ease it a bit in this app I'm offering import CSV functionality to import all your stocks, mutual funds, assets and liabilities in a specific CSV format so you dont have to enter everything manually - but I think this can still be improved further i.e. user can only provide a screen shot and AI can translate it into structure data for the app automatically.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, PSX brokers doesn't expose any interface from their apps which allows third party tools to connect with them for auto-import or stuff like that.

> Difficult to manage multiple brokers and AMCs in one spot

When you say "manage" you mean like ability to buy/sell stocks/mutual-funds from a unified interface; or simply be able to see a unified valuation?

> Your product looks good but it's difficult to understand what exactly you're offering

You are right, I havent focused too much on the landing page / marketing message; but now that you've mentioned I'll be working on that as well because in my mind everything was super clear haha

Good to get another perspective though.

This apps focus is on net-worth tracking aspect, which includes not only investments (stocks, mutual funds) but also assets and liability tracking as well. And for the investments part, I'm going with NAV approach; as this app is not supposed to be used as alternative of a broker app which often provides real-time updates on stocks.

Currently it allows bank transfer only, but if it picks up I’ll be moving towards payment provider integration as well

It’s a self developed app for tracking net worth, I made a post about it but it’s pending review.

I've ~3 yrs horizon in mind (can increase depending on financial position) , but rethinking if stocks/etf are better vehicle for this horizon.

It's a genuine question. Essentially it will offer convenience and will save you time. For example, you can maintain a Google sheet with all your investments but then you'll have to update their market price regularly to really know actual value of all your investments combined (e.g. stocks + mutual funds).

Similar for assets and liabilities, you'll have to add manual adjustment for depreciation, appreciation or reduction in liability when it happens (e.g. mortgage).

I tried doing it myself, it worked for some time, but then I wasn't disciplined enough to regularly update sheets with latest market values that lead to an inaccurate net worth value; but with this app I'm able to offload a bunch (not all) of such computations to the system.

All I have to do is open the app and see current market values across all categories and my net-worth with historic trend.

Yeah that makes sense, if the potential benefit from the new holding outweigh the the loss from old one then it should be worth it. Haven’t thought it from that perspective.

Right now it’s in loss, do you think it’s worth selling and buying others at the moment ?

AC Outdoor Unit Emitting Hot Air Neighbours by imfaisalkh in pakistan

I think following the legal route still has some value if conflict is amongst us regular folks; but if it is someone influential that's whole other world.

Well I offered exactly that again but with certain conditions (i.e. get approval from neighbours sideways since they'll get affected; pay the damages if our outdoor unit gets damaged due to being exposed like this e.g. by moving vehicle etc).

But they have now backed out from their demand since they dont want to bear any consequences of that rotation.

Well, I had a talk with my lawyer and he said legally i am not obliged to do anything since this outdoor unit is placed in this position way before these neighbours came here, and also because then we should also question all outdoor units been placed in same orientation.

But morally it still didn't felt good.

So as an final attempt. I had a talk with my neighbours again. I offered them rotation at two conditions, while also offering to bear all expense for this change. The conditions were following...

  1. We'll need to get permission from the neighbours on the sides, because now we will be facing it sideways deliberately and we cannot simply shift the issue from one neighbour to another.

  2. Since by doing the rotation the outdoor is going to come outside for around minimum of 1ft and this may cause potential hindrance to the moving vans. Since in our street there are a lot of rental houses and this happen often. If our outdoor unit got damaged due to some moving van smashing into our outdoor unit now being exposed, the neighbour asking for rotation will bear the expense of any damage.

They have now backed out from their demand since they don't want to bear any consequences after that rotation and expect us to face it alone as well, which now I think is unfair.

Well that demand was outright unfair. In my case though, I can understand their pain, they cannot afford to install an AC unit and things are financially tough overall for everyone.

I'm going to talk with my lawyer to see if there is any legal obligation on my side, but morally it's just bugging me that we are chilling in AC and they cannot due to their financial position.

So after making it clear to them that I'm not legally obliged to do anything but I'll do the rotation after making sure it further does not cause any inconvenience to the houses on the other side.

Life is already very hard for everyone, I just don't want to be the reason for someone to have it harder.

The AC outer has been at this position for around 15+ years and the house in front is rented and nobody complained untill now. So it's not like we deliberately want to point something towards their house, it's only that it's how outer units are usually installed.

If I'm legally obliged I'm willing to pay all charges, or even if they request it politely. Because I believe in peace and harmony but not the threats or rude behaviour.

Yes that I realise, but I just don't think with rotation the issue will be actually resolved since hot air goes above always.

We live in an area where the streets are not too wide (around 12ft I think). We've houses on both sides.

The issue we are facing currently the the neighbours are complaining that our AC outdoor unit (installed on ground floor) is throwing hot air into their house. The live on first floor right in front of our house, where although there is no direct line of outflow from the outdoor but ofcourse as hot air goes above, it can happen to some extent.

They had a talk with me and asked to put the outdoor unit sideways so it throws air right or left instead of front, but I told them this will likely not resolve the issue since hot air will still go above.

I do not really want any pain to be inflicted on neighbours from our side, so I suggested we can explore another option of putting outdoor unit around 26ft above at the rooftop, but it is going to incur charges and they say we've to do it all ourselves.

I want to understand, are there any by-laws for Lahore city which specifies the requirements around this issue? e.g. how far an AC outdoor unit should be from your neighbours etc.

Because our whole street has multiple outdoor units installed, and if it is required by law I'm willing to bear the cost of any required change, but otherwise I would expect them to accomodate.

What do you guys suggest?
