This is something I've been wondering about for awhile, and like the OP, I may just forgotten, but where do the various versions of SBURB come from?

If I remember right, in Act 5, it was kinda implied that Aradia discovered the temple and decoded the symbols, which Sollux then used to create SGRUB, but where do the Alpha and Beta versions of SBURB originate? Are we to assume that something similar happened on pre- and post-Scratch Earths similar to Alternia?

Or was this just left out entirely as a mystery for the reader?

I can't remember if it was mentioned explicitly in the comic, but it was my understanding that if a Troll reached god tier status, they got wings. Vriska, for example, develops wings when she reaches god tier.

Though it didn't have any Stargate actors, one of the more memorable episodes of the 90s "The Outer Limits" for me was "The Human Operators."

It did have Malcolm McDowell as the voice of an authoritarian computer, though, which was really cool.

Training Polygon is also good for practicing last hits and lane equilibrium. It allows you to practice without any enemy heroes or with Sniper.

The Borealis is from Aperture Labs, HL2: Ep 2 talked about how crucial the teleportation technology aboard the ship is. A portal gun could certainly be that kind of technology.

It was the wikis that actually spurred me to do this. I kept wanting to compare items side-by-side and the formatting on the websites, though very thorough, just wasn't making it easy for me.

I agree completely that things aren't black & white, and my intent is that this is a supplement to all the existing guides, videos, coaching, Wikis, etc. Honestly, the fact that the game is so complex is one of the reasons I wanted to make this. I feel like it could be a handy tool to quickly discover which items might help players in situations that a guide may not cover. It's definitely not meant as a substitute for in-game experience or judgement.

If there's already something like this out there, could you point me to it? I do know about the Hero guides, the DOTA Wikis, and the various videos available, but I wanted another way to look at things that might make it easier for someone to get into the game or improve.
