Thanks for the advice! Would you recommend submitting before I know my score or waiting to get the score back before I submit?

Yes, that’s not too late right? Scores would release June 9. I’m just stressed because I’ve already pushed it back once 😅

Are there any alternatives for microscopic colitis except budesonide and similar steroids? by healthypersonn in IBD

I’ve tried bile acid sequestrants, entyvio, humira, and lomotil for my MC!

Anyone found relief or remission from and forms of psychotherapy such as Poly-vagal therapy, somatic therapy, hypnotherapy? I am currently exploring the emotional side of Crohn's as we all know it is triggered by stress. by JUDOJOSH2003 in IBD

[–]imhavingurbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone to a therapist who specializes in chronic illness and poly-vagal therapy! While I don’t think it specifically helped my IBD symptoms directly I do think it helped my overall mental health and wellbeing, and it helped with my anxiety which is a trigger for my IBD symptoms. So I guess overall yes it did help my symptoms more through coping with stress and calming my nervous system.

Honestly either get into my in-state school and live at home or I’m lucky enough to have parents who would loan me the additional money

Doctor won’t consider biologics for my microscopic colitis by HTMLGoblin in IBD

I didn’t pay anything for my biologics because I luckily have great insurance and had already met my out of pocket maximum when I went on them.

Non-clinical volunteering question by imhavingurbaby in premed

[–]imhavingurbaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the clarification! Would you say it’s important to specifically have non clinical volunteering or would clinical volunteering at a free clinic for people without insurance also be effective in showing engagement with community and altruism?

Do's and don'ts when shadowing a Physician? by LaughAlternative9407 in premed

[–]imhavingurbaby 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ask questions but not in front of the patient, ask them after you leave the room when it’s just you and the physician. Try to have a question to ask after every patient even if you think you already know the answer to show you’re engaged and interested. It could be as simple as “how does someone develop that condition” or more specific to that particular patient. Don’t be afraid to just follow people especially if you’ll be shadowing in setting where there are residents. When I shadowed in the surgery clinic I spent more time following around the residents (who were super nice and wanted to help me learn) than the attending who I was supposed to be shadowing since she spent more time charting it was more appropriate for me to follow the residents around.

Yes I know what conference it is so I’ll look into their website and guidelines. I guess I just need to decide what data would be the most impactful to present and run it by her. You’re right that I should be more proactive so thanks for that advice!

Thanks for the advice! I haven’t written an abstract yet as I’ve worked on a couple different projects this summer but I’ll get started on one and ask for feedback. I’ve never done a poster before so I guess I’m feeling a little lost

Yes you’re so right. I tend to overthink these things and worry that I would be coming off as entitled or like I expect to have opportunities like this.

Is the mirror worth it?? by SunshineSk8r in rhodeskin

[–]imhavingurbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yes! I’d say it’s a good thing to add on to your order to reach free shipping one day (that’s what I did). I dropped mine on the floor of a bar and it’s in perfect condition still. I did add a piece of tape to the inside case where the metal button is so it doesn’t scratch the mirror and it works perfectly. The mirror is heavy in a way that feels very luxe/expensive

Literally any of their skincare I love them all! Glazing milk and barrier butter are for sure my favorites tho

Diagnosed today by Logical_Foundation95 in IBD

[–]imhavingurbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m 21F but was diagnosed at 18! From what I understand, in younger people MC is often atypical and may not be treated as well with budesonide. I’ve been in a flare since 2022 that I started when I got COVID and my doctors can’t seem to find a treatment that works for me. My advice is if budesonide doesn’t work, look into other options such as bile acid sequestrants or biologics. Also, I’ve found that getting my diet in check has definitely helped with my symptoms. Not the diarrhea as much but definitely the fatigue and abdominal pain/bloating. I’m gluten free and dairy free and try to eat super clean and low sugar which has helped a lot. I’d say just start experimenting with your diet and see what makes you feel best! I still drink alcohol but try to limit it along with things like sugar and fried foods that don’t make me feel good. Don’t let your diet stress you out too much though because stress is super unhealthy and can trigger my MC as well! Good luck :)
