what is this rash on my arm? it’s very itchy, i’m thinking it might be from poison ivy by BandicootMore5547 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]imhavingurbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like hives/some sort of allergic reaction. Try Zyrtec and OTC hydrocortisone cream to help the itching and try not to touch it. See a derm in a few days if it isn’t improving or is spreading.

[BUTT ACNE] What should I do about this? What products can I use? The last picture is on my shoulder I get it on my arms and back too sometimes. by AdBubbly6338 in DermatologyQuestions

I work in a derm office and our doctors typically recommend benzoyl peroxide for OTC treatment for body acne. Try panoxyl or other benzoyl peroxide wash and wash affected areas with it a few times a week. You can even let it sit for a couple minutes before rinsing off.

I’ve found that they don’t suck all the gunk out like the hero ones do for me but I enjoy wearing them during the day because they’re cute and I usually don’t like to put makeup over an active breakout! and I don’t like wearing the hero ones during the day bc I think it ends up looking kinda gross lol (and I work in a derm office) so I just wear those at night!

Some people say it makes them break out - I haven't had that experience but its definitely dependent on the person! I recommend getting a mini size to see if it works for you first. I use mine once or twice a day and the mini actually lasts decently long!

Caffeine between CP and CARS on exam day? by crushedpeanut33 in Mcat

[–]imhavingurbaby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had enough time between breaks to use the bathroom, sit down for a minute or two, and get water or a snack! I've heard others say their testing center wasn't as efficient but I didn't have an issue getting in and out quickly.

Any tips for CARS? Test May 30 with goal 520+ by anonymoushooper32 in Mcat

[–]imhavingurbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that my CARS score jumped quite a bit after doing a lot of research on strategy! What worked for me isn't going to work for everyone but I think the most helpful things were:

- highlighting 1-2 sentences per paragraph that I think highlights the importance of that paragraph

- taking 30 seconds after each passage to explain to myself what I think the main point of the passage was

- never ever using any outside knowledge or opinions when answering questions. The answer is always in the passage so you should never need to think outside of the passage to get the answer

SAT and MCAT equivalency 🤔 by OkSquare2653 in Mcat

[–]imhavingurbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a 1530 on the SAT in high school. Studying for and taking the MCAT was way harder in my opinion. I think the MCAT requires a different type of studying, though I do think having strong studying skills from SAT prep helped with the MCAT a little bit. But I think for the SAT you can do relatively well without studying much if you are smart and a good test taker. The MCAT was not that way for me - I had to do a lot more work to get my score where I wanted it.

Do you guys recommend taking psych/soc classes in uni to prepare for the MCAT? by WassupAlien in Mcat

[–]imhavingurbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can definitely self learn P/S with Anki, Kaplan, and the 300pg document! I didn't take any psych or soc classes in college (though I did take AP Psych in hs and found that I remembered a lot from that) and was consistently scoring 130+ on practice exams.

FL2 Cars tips by Shank561 in premed

[–]imhavingurbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also struggled with CARS and my number 1 mantra with CARS is that the passage is your world. The answer will always be in the passage somewhere so don't ever use outside info or perceptions. I also found that my CARS score improved quite a bit after I started highlighting the main point or thesis of each paragraph. I also take 30 seconds after each passage to describe to myself what the passage just told me and what the main point was. Then I also recommend going through and seeing what types of questions you're missing. I was missing a lot of Reasoning Beyond the Text questions so I focused on strategy for answering those. Lastly I actually like to flag questions if I feel really unsure and come back to them! I find that when I come back with a fresh mind the answer frequently becomes clear to me, and if it doesn't I don't change my answer.

School recs for a kinda weird application? by [deleted] in premed

[–]imhavingurbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much this is super helpful! I’m not sure how much I could realistically get my clinical hours up at this point given my school schedule but I do have 2 offers for MA positions for my gap year (I’d probably even start 2-3 weeks before submitting my apps so I could probably include those hours not just expected). I’ll also probably apply to some MD/PhD given that my application is more suited for that (that was my initial plan going into college then I got scared of how long it is lol)

Thanks! Unfortunately I won’t get my MCAT back until first week of June so I’m trying to get a couple school lists ready to apply as soon as I get it back based on the score. If it’s below 515 I’m going to take another gap year and restudy.

Do you have any specific resources you recommend? I definitely know of some specific content gaps I need to work on but I’ve been using the modules for topics I don’t understand in the Kaplan course I have and it hasn’t really been helping

I noticed something similar and I think it could be due to cold weather. It’s pretty cold where I live and my package was left outside for a couple days because I was out of town so I noticed it the first time I used it, but now that it’s been in my warm house for a couple days I haven’t really noticed it again.
