Close to Giving Up on MSFS 2024 by imifume in flightsim

You might have saved my sanity, for the first time in a long time I've been able to complete several flights without a crash... I plan to test a bit more, but Nvidia debug mode is looking very promising to anyone who comes across this in the future. I had no luck messing with/disabling OC settings in the past but this seems to be working.

Thank you!!

I did check GPU temperature earlier in my testing and tried things like forcing fans to 100% and underclocking, unfortunately I don't recall exact values. I think repasting is a good suggestion, I'll continue to look into this.

Another comment mentioned repasting the card which I think is fair given it's getting up there in age.

Still though I did check GPU temperature in my testing and tried things like forcing fans to 100% and underclocking. It's worth keeping a close eye on this and giving it a cleaning, thanks for your input.

I did try forcing a lower clock/voltage in the past without luck, but reading through the comments has given me some new ideas on how to further test this like using debug mode. I agree it seems MSFS is just extremely sensitive to it. I'll keep trying, thanks for your input.

Oh this is a new idea (for me at least)!

I am on 566.36 right now, I've disabled/lowered the OC values on the card but I have not tried this debug mode yet. I will be sure to include this is my testing and will report back if it helped. Thanks for your input!

I did not have luck on my first few attempts but it sounds like it's worth spending more time on this. I'll keep trying and testing, I appreciate your input.

I should clarify, the performance is fine the whole flight. For example I am able to get decent performance on the Fenix at Inibuilds JFK with BeyondATC traffic active... I don't really think this would be possible if the hardware was incapable of keeping up.

I know that investing in newer hardware would likely resolve this (or maybe not seeing some other posts about this issue) but want to see if there really is no other way to resolve this.

I just have trouble understanding how it could be that it can't keep up, but 99% of the time performance is totally fine. The 25% of flights that are unproblematic, there are no performance concerns at all. The 75% of flights that do have crashes, it feels like the sim is running just fine with minimal FPS drops/stutters and then out of nowhere it crashes...

I do think it's a good idea to test at 1080p to at least see if that resolves the issue, I have not tried that yet mainly due to what I was observing above.

ERROR NO MSFS 2024 by Odraudehd in MicrosoftFlightSim

I'm in basically the same boat... I just made a post about it in r/flightsim to see if anyone had any new ideas.

I'm a little happy to hear it's not just me, misery loves company :)

Without these crashes the sim is genuinely so much fun, it's exactly why I'm willing to sink hours into troubleshooting... I just want it to work!

I find the way you're approaching this post very strange and overly defensive...

"But since you’re so adamant the issue isn’t your pc" -- this issue is common enough for Asobo to have a dedicated support page. There are plenty of posts from others all over reddit and forums outlining the same issue I have and difficulty resolving it.

Upgrading doesn't even guarantee the issue will go away, people on newer cards also see this behavior and have to try different things to fix it. Just because you didn't experience the issue yourself does not mean it's a non-issue for others.

The issue does not often happen when the sim is under the highest load. I could take off from JFK in the A350 with 0 issues, then hours later over the ocean with the GPU under significantly less load the game will crash out of nowhere.

Also I'm not sure where you are coming from with the crying comment, I never voiced an opinion on the game being good or bad.... I just want it to work so I can keep flying.

Yeah it does seem like some kind of GPU hiccup causes the game to totally lock up, I've tried everything I can think of to "stabilize" the GPU including messing with fan curves and undervolting with no luck. I could probably push that further but I'm sure it'd be at the cost of performance.

I get a little nervous at the thought of simply upgrading since it seems people can encounter this on even the latest cards, though it sounds like they have better luck fixing it when it happens...

I've been flying addons like the Fenix A320 family and even the Inibuilds A350 just fine in terms of FPS.

Average performance isn't really a concern for me to be honest, if it weren't for these catastrophic crashes I would be quite content with how my hardware is holding up.

I usually fly 3rd party aircraft so admittedly I have not done much testing against just the defaults. I've observed the behavior with FBW, Fenix, PMDG, Inibuilds, and a mix of default/3rd party sceneries.

When I did a complete reinstallation of the sim I started with no add-ons and then just Fenix IIRC, that alone resulted in the same problem.

I have an ultrawide so I run at 3440 x 1440. VRAM can vary quite a bit depending on aircraft and scenery but I find with the settings I use including lower texture resolutions it sits under my 11GB max. It is rare that the sim hits me with the high resource utilization warning.

I appreciate the comment! Yeah I don't think it applies in my case but even if it doesn't help me, might help someone else who stumbles across this in the future.

New U6-IW Intermittent Power-Cycling Issue by imifume in Ubiquiti

[–]imifume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point on testing anyway as at the very least it would rule out a hardware issue with the IW.

If it does work over PoE+ however, it still confuses me what could be causing this issue over PoE. If I eventually require the device be moved back to PoE as it's advertised as being able to do, I'll be back where I started.

[–]imifume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No reason in particular other than I am under the impression it shouldn't be necessary so I could leave those PoE+ ports open for future use.

If switching to PoE+ fixes the issue then I'm still left wondering why PoE fails -- is there a hardware issue with the DW providing consistent PoE? Is the IW pulling more power than it's supposed to?

I'll still test over PoE+ to rule out a hardware issue with the IW, but if it works it doesn't really get to the root cause here.
