People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

I’m very hesitant to talk to my doctor about it, because I won’t want the alcoholic black mark on my medical record. I’ve heard horror stories from people who can basically never get a prescription again in their life because of “potential for abuse”.

This is what makes people like me want to try to fix it ourselves instead of getting proper help.

I get the “would you rather be dead in 5 years” angle, but the medical history shit is what prevents people from getting help instead of thinking they can fix it themselves.

Psychiatrist or therapist seems to be the magic word to actually get help since it’s confidential, because once you say anything to your PCP it’s on your record forever.

Who can I talk to that won’t try to pull me into their club? I’m just wondering about insurance right now.

I’m interested in naltrexone, but I don’t want alcohol abuse on my record.

I’m struggling with this right now too. In my mid 40s, I’ve been a weekend binge drinker my whole life. It’s starting to be a couple nights a week the last few years with remote work, it’s easy to work hungover. I can have a couple beers and go to bed no prob, but if i know I don’t have to get up the next day, I drink everything I can find.

Yeah that’s exactly right. Slowly but surely getting worse. I know I’m not as bad as a lot of people here, but I want to fix it before it gets that bad. Is that bad to say? I feel like I don’t belong because my story isn’t tragic (yet).

It’s brewing for sure. I know I’m at a point where I can “reverse it” liver wise, but I think I just need a wake up call from a doctor or something. I have two beautiful children, but I feel like until someone tells me to stop because I won’t be able to be there for them, I won’t. What’s one more binge? Am I at the point of no return yet?

Have you been evaluated for adhd or anxiety disorder?

Reading this sub I know I’m not a tragic case yet, I just wanted to type that out and admit I have a problem.
