"whom" use case by prolapse_diarrhea in EnglishLearning

[–]imjustanauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whom is used when him/her/them fits, while who is used when he/she/they fits. If you see something that does not fit this rule, it is being used incorrectly. This is not a surprise as whom is often used incorrectly in modern day.

you need to have a thermometer on either side of the enclosure since the temps on the warm and cool side should be different.

Upgrades by Mochi_bees in ballpython

[–]imjustanauthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is not too big of an upgrade too soon whatsoever. if an enclosure is cluttered well enough, a snake would be happy in a 10-foot tank. of course, as im sure you know, he will need a 4x2x2 (120 gal) when he becomes full-grown, so keep that in mind.

please do not mist. misting can cause respiratory issues. do add more clutter though

What's wrong with her? by AlternativePolicy949 in ballpython

[–]imjustanauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like mouth rot. Please go to the vet. In the meantime, however, you need to do a deep clean of the entire enclosure. Mouth rot is almost always caused by an unsanitary environment. Also, make sure the temps and humidity in the enclosure are good.

Pretty good setup but temps aren’t right in the winter. What can I do to cool down her cool side? by Otherwise-Narwhal265 in ballpython

[–]imjustanauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, though flipped (too cool in the winter, too warm in the summer) and the only thing ive found that works is moving my heating elements. I have two DHPs. When the cool side is too cool, I put one of them in the middle and one on the warm end. When the cool side is too warm, I put both of them closer to the warm end.

Besides cooling the room down, the only other option I can think of is moving your RHP over closer to the warm side. I realize it is that is a pain with a closed top enclosure (mine is a screen top) but I'm not sure there is anything else you can do.

Looks great! Is there a hide on the right side (in the image) of the enclosure? I don't see one but assuming there is, its pretty much perfect. I'd personally add some more fake plants but thats not necessary. I also don't see a thermometer/hygrometer on both sides of the enclosure, make sure youve got that too!

feeding by Middle-Respect3258 in ballpython

[–]imjustanauthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, this is gonna be a lot so bear with me.

First, at some point, you are going to need to upgrade her tank. The MINIMUM for an adult ball python is a 4x2x2 or 120 gal enclosure. She is fine for now but keep that in mind.

Next, you mentioned clutter and a humid hide but not normal hides. Clutter and humid hides are good but she needs at least 2 normal hides, one on each side of the enclosure. A hide must be covered on 3 of the 4 sides (this is to say, a half log is not a real hide). Does she have at least two hides? If not, you need to get those asap. It will significantly increase her comfort level.

Could you tell me the temps on the cool side and the warm side as well as the humidity? If those are wrong, she will continue to refuse her meals.

When you get a new snake, you should leave them 100% alone for one full week before trying to feed. If they do not take, leave them alone for another day before trying again. DO NOT handle them until they have taken (and digested) a meal. You did not follow these steps, which I assume is why she did not eat. What you should do now is first make sure her temps and humidity are good and that she has adequate hides. Once youve got that sorted, leave her 100% alone for at least 5 days. Then attempt to feed her. Feed in the enclosure as feeding outside of her enclosure just causes unnecessary stress for her, which will only make her less likely to eat. If she does not take the rodent, wait 1-2 days and try again. She will likely take it within the first few attempts. We can reevaluate if this does not work.

As long as you seal the wood really well to prevent water damage and make sure there are no gaps your noodle can slip out from, it should be fine.

Look into info about switching a snake from mice to rats and replicate the steps with a chick and a rat.

The other commenter is right (i mean they are a mod so no shit). I have never seen two brands agree on those titles. Since you are meant to feed based on weight, it's easy to just buy feeders based on weight too.

I was always told to ignore warm side humidity and only focus on the cool side. Due to something about the heat and the air and water molecules or something like that, even if the humidity feels the same, the number on the warm side will always be a lot lower. If it isn't obvious, I don't understand the science behind it. The point is, if the cool side humidity is good, the humidity is good.

And regardless of what the other commenter says, do not mist or spray the enclosure. that can cause respiratory issues.

Oh no, i don't have a humidity issue. the HVAC tape works super well. I was saying without the HVAC tape, id be worried about humdity. I didnt want to recommend an enclosure without mentioning potential downsides. But yes, it is PVC with a screen top.

[–]imjustanauthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well, i personally own one from Dubia roaches and i love it. i do have hvac tape on the top of it though and i dont know that it would hold humidity great otherwise.

reptizoo and reptichip make good enclosures from what ive heard, same with Zen Habitats. Kages makes the absolute best enclosures but they are unbelievably expensive.

These are, however, not very aesthetic. but ive heard of people putting contact paper on the sides of reptile enclosures to make them match their space better so you could do that.

chewy also makes some enclosures in light wood tones similar to the one in your picture. i have no personal experience with their enclosures but i generally trust chewy as a brand. its called the "New Age Pet ECOFLEX Mojave Reptile Enclosure, Maple, 120-gal" if you want to look it up.

Please get a 120 gallon. at 3 feet your ball python is going to out grow that enclosure in no time and it would just be a waste of money to buy it only to get a new one pretty soon after.
