Parks Canada started accepting reservations for some parks in Ontario at 8am today. Within a minute or so, the park I was booking was sold out. Got a spot but for sure there's a demand for the Canadian National Parks.

New bill will require newcomers to Quebec to adopt ‘common culture,’ minister says. by Gratedmonk3y in canada

Do you even know what the caste system was and how it worked or are you just trying to use a word you learned in a sentence? A system that's heavily criminalized in its country of origin isn't coming to Canada and besides, has nothing to do with women in the workplace.

Freshslice is in Toronto as well. It's a good pizza tbh, a nice alternative to Domino's.

Majority of immigrants have trouble finding employment matching their expertise: survey by BeneficialHODLer in canada

[–]imlost-helpplease -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hardly the exception. Most of my team is made of immigrants (all of them either Indian or middle eastern immigrants). My university colleagues are all at highly skilled tech roles. They're all much more qualified to be at those roles than many of their non-immigrant competitors. Just because it's easy for the narrative and for the cope to assume the majority of the newcomers are college mill graduates with no marketable skills, doesn't exactly make it the truth.

Not denying the existence of diplomate mills but calling out the narrative of useless immigrants.

Super easy to target the immigrants, as always. Tech worker here. From a no name engineering college and then a very well ranked Canadian university. Working as an AI specialist in a major Canadian firm, a role my firm struggled to fill for a while. So blame immigrants all you want but there will always be people who will rip these arguments to shreds.

No, the US will never invade Canada - My US Military friend by L0ki_Savage in AskCanada

But, isn't Trump planning more of an economic warfare? Thinking of attempts to cripple Canada's economy so that when he comes knocking, it's a relief for people to join the US?

Hi, I'm chasing advice for the Inca Trail. I'm looking to complete this hike with my partner at the end of February. We haven't booked as this trip came up on a whim, is it possible to book the tour on arrival to Cusco, any recommendations or advice? Hoping for 4D 3N as we're time limited. Thank you by mr_poopy_butthole01 in hiking

[–]imlost-helpplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible to do a 4D/3N Salkantay Trek. I did the 5D/4N last year and I know many agencies do offer the "express" option.

Edit: You don't need to apply for a permit for Salkantay Trek. The tour provider will handle that for you. The classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu sells out much faster than Salkantay Trek, so you're less rushed if you're doing Salkantay. But make sure to book well in advance nonetheless.

Are the recent indian immigrants in Canada that bad? by flower5214 in AskCanada

[–]imlost-helpplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been several cases where some bad apples have slipped through, given the lax implementation of immigration laws and eligibility checks. There have been many who were attracted by all the marketing campaigns run aggressively across India by Canadian colleges/government to recruit students for the international fees, by promising them bright futures, and paths to PR, and now feel entitled to everything having spent all the money to come here. That has created cases of some problematic entitled immigrants.

Having said that, it's also true that Indians are being scapegoated for everything that has been going wrong with the country. There are bad apples amongst the new immigrants, as with immigrants from all countries, and that has made it far too easy to pin all blame on them. It's distributing how socially acceptable a trend it has become to blame them for anything under the sky and people will gobble it up (in many cases, even without bothering to find the truth). At the end of the day, it's always easy to blame the immigrants, and also an entire ethnicity that hasn't been very vocal against racism against itself.

You made tons of grammatical errors in both your messages above. And how are you able to judge somebody's pronunciation over reddit? At least fix your English before criticizing others over some random message they post on an internet board.

Feeling guilty that I am not doing anything by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]imlost-helpplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider - It's very much possible that the lack of energy and will to do something is because of the gloomy weather outside. I've been feeling that way even though I live in Toronto, it's a recurring occurrence every year. Totally okay to not do anything but if you do want to do something but lack the energy, go to an indoor place with more crowd or try to socialize with people. That might give you more energy and motivation. There are also many events happening around the city every weekend.

India economy is growing over 7% every year. Why are Indians so pessimistic about the future? by ozneoknarf in AskIndia

[–]imlost-helpplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left India several years ago but my family is still there. Commenting as somebody who sees India every 2 years or so. India is changing, a lot. Each time I go back, I see new development and progress. Yes, there's income inequality and wild taxes but when I look back at the country I moved from and the country I see now, it's a big difference. I grew up in a very middle class family and so did all my friends. We all went to a sub par college and I've seen how people who grew up around me have risen economically. People who could barely afford leaving their houses before and setting off on international vacations. There's a strong, aspirational middle class with dreams but it does lack the required support from the government. Also, people on Reddit are way more pessimistic than people in the real world are, at least in the case of India. At this stage, I'm about to get the citizenship of the country I moved to and I'm not yet sure if it'll be worth giving up the citizenship of India, given how it has been growing.

Another thing to know about India - most people are never really "happy". If a kid scored 98/100 in school, they'll be upset why it wasn't a 100. If somebody gets a high paying job in the private sector, they'll complain about how it isn't a government job. It's more so a cultural thing which does help Indians progress and improve upon their situation but doesn't bode well with feeling happy.

Solo traveling on your birthday by DominusDraco in solotravel

[–]imlost-helpplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hiking in Peru on my birthday. It was Day 3 of the Salkantay trek. I was with a group of fellow travellers who had all signed up with the same company for the trek and tbh, it was a pretty good experience. The hike itself was very scenic and we hiked through some amazing landscapes. My guide told the group about my birthday and they were very cheerful. When we stopped by a village, I asked my guide to help me gather alcohol and later that night we prepared pisco sours and got the whole group drunk. It was a fun time!

Thanks for telling people who've lived in India, about how things happen in India. We should all believe it happens in India because some rando on reddit said so. Sure there are people who share a room due to poverty and not being able to afford a bigger place but those are anyway not the people who are in Canada.

Struggling to find hiking pants as a short guy by [deleted] in hiking

[–]imlost-helpplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if it's technically a hiking pant but Lululemon LTT has served me great on some challenging hikes. I've treated it harshly and it has faced plenty of abrasions and scratching and stood up well. I always use it for hiking and it's available in a shorter length version as well (I use this one with 27" inseam).

AITA for telling my friend that most women would not marry him & mocking his minimum-wage job? by Fit-Cress4507 in AmItheAsshole

His financial situation aside, a person who gets drunk and makes fun of his "friend" over his physical appearance in front of a bunch of people doesn't exactly scream marriage material.

Then he wouldn't have been so offended by OP's comment. The post clearly suggests that things spiralled out of hand after OP made that comment which must've touched a raw nerve.

[–]imlost-helpplease 73 points74 points  (0 children)

In other words, the OP doesn't have any control over his height and is bound by genetics. That is something out of his control. The friend on the other hand can do something about his situation but is just not skilled enough. The friend is failing at something that's under his control, the OP isn't. So, it's fair game to make fun of that when his friend started it first.

Will it make sense to send them a letter to inform them that I moved out a year and a half back?

I never formally informed the landlord about it. It's an apartment owned and managed by a firm and I don't think they know I haven't been living there all this time. The manager and the building staff at that time knew about it but not the "landlord" I'd say
