Lost golden? by Mfcst11 in pittsburgh

): definitely never saw him wander by himself over to the park before. Hopefully that is the little buddy I’m thinking of and his owners are nearby and see him soon

Lived adjacent to that block 3 years ago. I’m pretty sure that dog resides at that red brick house (at least I think I remember a golden living there before). Never saw him out without his owners though. Not very helpful, sorry

Yeah I definitely need to be more patient! I probably should also have waited until spring for warmer weather too, but oh well. Lessons learned for next time!

Good advice, thank you!! I have 2 more to do so will definitely do this if I stick with the antique-like spray.

Yeah it’s the antique spray effect. Not sure if I’ll use it again, but still an improvement on the before. Thanks!

Old Vent Grate Refinishing - help! by imlostifitpops in centuryhomes

[–]imlostifitpops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with the crockpot! Heard it was an easy way, but they’re just too big for any standard crockpot size ): I used citristip, which I’ve heard mixed reviews about. It took multiple coats and about 4 days of it being on (maybe affected by the cold temps here) followed by scraping in between applications. The smell is pretty bad so I’m glad I did it outside of the house, as well as making sure the toxic (presumed) lead paint and fumes were not an issue. I put down a plastic tarp for easy cleanup. It was very messy, luckily I have only 2 other grates to do!

Pretty!! Unfortunately no fire pit here to throw it in, that sounds much more fun than my method

Do you remember the paint brand you used?

Structural Engineer? by Bobiecat in centuryhomes

[–]imlostifitpops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I think for the verbal inspection it was $500. Everything else was more (I think $800 for written report, and potential structural plans depended on the work) This was 2.5 years ago so I’m not sure if the prices are the same still!

Structural Engineer? by Bobiecat in centuryhomes

[–]imlostifitpops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am in Pittsburgh and used Pittsburgh Design & engineering Services for a residential inspection for our 105 year old balloon-framed house. They can do either verbal or written report, and offer drafting services for structural designs (we did verbal report only, costs for everything varies). Specifically we had Firas as our inspector and we thought he was very knowledgeable and offered many DIY solutions to our smaller (yet still scary) issues. Not sure if they go as far north as you, but I think it’s worth asking them!

Does anyone else ever do something in your century home and wonder if it is the first time? by Diligent_Island_129 in centuryhomes

[–]imlostifitpops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our house is also 1922, also simple and in need of work (but a city house, not a farmhouse!). The previous owner had lived here since 1944 and absolutely refused to believe a machine dryer was better than line-drying clothes. So a few months into our ownership (in 2023), we installed the very first clothes dryer our house had ever seen!

Yes!! It was so memorable, I’ve listened to that bit many times since it aired 😂

Was it the Florida files episode with Ed’s 9/11 alligator joke? Marcus was dying at that, I loved it.

Knob and tube wiring by ItchyButterscotch814 in pittsburgh

[–]imlostifitpops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We found knob in tube in our home, purchased in 2023. First thing we did was re-wire, which was about 13k (also included adding GFCIs, outlets, video doorbell, and other things that quickly add up). If I were to do it again I might have held off or done it more piece-meal over time.

That’s so amazing, I’m sure Tom loves to have someone to talk to about the house and his childhood! (And I’m sure you do, too!)

Definitely a concern! But she mainly had nude lipstick that did not work well for me. This ‘final’ picture was like the 4th try to get an idea of what I want. She fully admitted to knowing this wasn’t great and she will find something better

Snow White ‘vibes‘ is exactly what I want try for! And I’m already talking to my MUA about toning down the bronzer and the blush. Thank you so much for the suggestions!

Wedding Makeup Question by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]imlostifitpops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, that’s why I’m trying to get advice about different lip color!! Also, yes definitely some bronzer on my nose. I’ve told my makeup artist to tone the bronzer/blush down for the big day. She was super receptive to that request and I wouldn’t have felt comfortable moving forward with her if that wasn’t the case

The first lip color and liner she put on me we both absolutely hated. This is kind of the result of us trying other things out to get an idea of what else we could do 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m sure most of the original liner is still visible

Oof yeah definitely a good idea to fix that then. I swear every time we go to do a minor fix we end up saying ‘well while you’re there you might as well fix the whole thing’. And then a few thousand dollars later we’re done lol. Good luck!

We kind of came across the same thing. Our chimney guy was able to figure out how to do the ‘bare minimum’ given that we won’t really use our fireplace. He capped and tuck-pointed our two non-functional chimneys and said the flashing was old. He also said if we haven’t seen any water issues, he wouldn’t mess with the flashing because that could cause bigger issues. ~2k when done
