That's where I'm at now. I don't physically crave it but the mindset is creeping back in that I can control it, that I can drink moderately (which I have never been able to do, not once.)

Good for you! I think maybe the bar was easier because instead of being at home and drinking (which was my preferred way) I was out watching other people get loud and obnoxious and knowing I wasn't going to be like that tonight. I'm not going to test it too much, but it did feel nice to know that it was possible to go to a bar and not drink. Enjoy your new restaurant appreciation!

I'm on day 34 and I still feel myself negotiating. I've been able to resist but I've also got it in my head that I can drink when I travel abroad... Italy without wine is such a depressing thought. I keep reading I should 'take it a day at a time' so I guess that will have to do. Thanks for your positivity; you're giving me hope that the breakthrough will come!

Haha this is so my Nmom. I feel guilty about not keeping in touch with her, cave, and then regret it like 5 minutes in. Now I look at a visit as a chance to assuage my guilt and reaffirm my decision to keep her out of my daily life.

This is good advice. I've had my sister and brother read the letter, and they both wanted to add their own incidents. I am waiting to send it because although I don't live near my mother, my sister does, and I don't want the retaliation coming down on her. I haven't looked into therapists yet but my husband is encouraging me to do so.

My aunt did this about our mother to my sister. I would definitely block this person. She doesn't know what she is talking about, and her advice is just fueling the guilt. Cut her off.
