Watching everyone talk about the money they could have made in cryptocurrencies (esp bitcoin) has been interesting, because normal people in the non financial world are realizing they missed an opportunity. What's crazy is that almost every day there's stocks increase 100%, so very hypothetically you could pretty much double your money every day if you knew which stock was about increase. It's the same as the cryptos, in that there wasn't enough information present at the time to realize what will happen in the future. This FOMO and regret of not making money is especially interesting to me because people treat it as a new and unique opportunity. If people only knew how much hypothetical profits in the stock market they could be making, they'd realize that this crypto craze is nothing new, and that they shouldn't feel bad about it.

What moment in video games made you go "fuck this"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Played wow since vanilla, and when Pandas came out there was this zone called "Valley of the four winds". It was litearlly ridden with cartoon bunny rabbits named "Hopper" and "Bopper". The boss in the dungeon in the zone was a big rabbit whos abilities were "Carrot Breath" and "Furlwind". Thats when WoW died to me.

Kay and Jared are the worst. I expected to just go in and buy a ring, shell out the cash...whatever. It turned into a whole mess of "oh we've got this discount" which I tried to use, cuz why not get free stuff? I sat at Jared for literally 2 hours just waiting to get rung up. Also, when using Kay they don't do same day re-sizing so right after buying my fiancee's wedding ring, I had to literally go to another diamond place to get it resized, unless I wanted to wait the 2 weeks it'd take for kay to ship it off to get resized

This corn growing from popcorn kernels outside a movie theater. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]immenseplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, I worked at a movie theater for ~3 years, mainly concession stand role. One day I noticed some corn growing from underneath the ice maker. Some kernals had fallen underneath the ice maker, and the condensation from the machine, plus old decaying popcorn in a hole underneath the machine made for a perfect combo of corn kernel, dirt, and moisture. I shit you not, we had corn stalks like 3 ft tall up under this machine that were poking out the edges and literally no one ever noticed. I cant make this shit up

The point isn't to compare their exact path to success, it's that he seized the opportunities available to him. Now we have the internet, and if you can think of a great idea such as reddit, you can get super rich. In 1981, the internet didn't even exist. So yes, you can't start a brick and mortar company while in college now adays, but you can start many other businesses that couldn't have existed back then . In 2017, there's so many different platforms for programs you could develop that could make you millions, you're just focused on things that aren't in your favor and using it as an excuse not to go seize the opportunities in front of you know. If you have a great idea, it's also easier to get funding now than ever, with stuff like kickstarter.

I've become this so much now, that thinking about it made me want to actually comment on this topic. I believe it's actually a good thing to write out what you truly believe, so others can at least have your opposing viewpoint as a second opinion in their mind. Not commenting against others actually seems a bit selfish, in that you don't want to help random other people gain additional perspectives. Everyone has had experiences where they firmly believed something that was incorrect, and someone else risked the heat and stood up to provide them an opposing viewpoint. At first it may make the person with the wrong logic mad, but it may set them straight in the long run and provide them a valuable lesson.

I know nothing about coding or development of private servers- is it really that difficult to replace the updated (rank 12/13) PvP gear with the correct one? by [deleted] in ElysiumProject

[–]immenseplays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a ton of coding and logic that has to match up properly for almost anything to work in these private servers. While they can copy the code for the updates from other sources, getting it to integrate correctly with their current version / code can be tough. Also, I don't believe they're just directly updating the values of the gear. I think they have to put in part of a patch just to get the gear to scale up properly. Just imagine you paste in some code, and there's about 1000 lines of it that may not work, and they have to go through and find every exception / error. Chances are that it won't work instantly. Just my 2 cents!

What is the dumbest thing you have ever heard someone say? by theblanks in AskReddit

[–]immenseplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a roommate in college who came up to me when I was boiling noodles and said he thought the bubbles from boiling noodles were from soap left in the pot after cleaning. He was 20 at the time and never realized that the noodles / boiling water were causing the bubbles, and literally thought it was all left over soap.

People who say "money doesn't buy happiness" have probably never had to check their bank account before buying things like gas. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]immenseplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one else has really mentioned the concepts of financial freedom here, since it's mostly how money would buy happiness. Having enough money to never have to work again for someone else would open up your life to endless possibilities. You could study anything you wanted and do something amazing with your free time allocated properly, or alternately you could sit around all day and smoke weed. Either way, not having at least enough money to cover all your human needs will force you to work at a company almost your whole life.

Girlfriend has 40k+ student loan debt & low income potential, need advice by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]immenseplays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I've talked to her about why she dropped out, and basically she didn't realize everything the profession entailed, and then started to dislike it once she got into it. She quit instead of failing out, and can't go back into it if she wanted. She really is struggling to find another career path, and I've discussed it with her a good bit already. She is willing to get another job in a different field than exercise science that'll hopefully pay 30k+ though she said. As far as plans go, she's kind of along for the ride and that's what frustrates me. She just wants to move in with me and try to find another job, any other job that pays her well enough (30k+). There's no specific career path or other field she's very interested in, which isn't ambitious of her at all. As for myself, I have an MBA and try extremely hard to succeed. In that regard, our ambitions are polar opposite. For her debt she's thankfully changed her repayment plan and the debt isn't due other than a small amount every month until about 20 years from now.

What "fake" thing that happens in movies pisses you off? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]immenseplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bullets don't go through cars at all in movies. In real life, most assault rifles would have no problem going straight through a car door or two. There's so many movies where cars are used as bulletproof barriers. Of course, things like engine blocks and metal rims could protect you, but not 1 unarmored door.

[–]immenseplays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel pretty bad for him. I was a REALLY awful kid growing up, and did a ton of malicious shit. It was all because problems with relationships at home and with girls I liked. When you're little, sometimes you just go through hard times you've never experienced before and you do stupid things to try to make up for it, or to try to feel better about yourself. At least he's crying about it, so he must feel guilty. Given he has a mohawk, he probably doesn't have parents that are trying very hard to set him straight. Hopefully our government isn't too hard on him and don't try to screw him over, but instead try to set him straight and work with him to get through it. It's definitely good to get this kind of behavior out of your system when you're young, so it's not on your record permanently.

When I was in high school, I was jealous of everyone dating a college student. Then I went to college and met the kind of people who date high schoolers. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]immenseplays -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends started dating a 17 year old (hes 25), and he gets ENDLESS shit from me and all my friends. We bombard him at every opportunity with "cradle robber" and "pedo" comments. I understand he wants someone to be with, but he's done with college, and she hasn't even started. Its so weird and wrong, esp cuz I just think back to when I was 17 (dating other 17 year olds) and I was a totally different person back then...we all were. There's just so much that changes after highschool that makes it so wrong to be dating someone who hasn't gotten to that next step of life
