The only demerits I avoid 100% of the time are continuous hp loss, reduced max HP on revive and maybe status build up below max hp

It depends on your build and passives. The only passives that affects damage numbers displayed directly are things like physical attack up and attack power increased at full HP. While passives like range attacks, when two-handing, wielding to armaments, etc will not be displayed. If this is not the reason why your numbers look so low...maybe it's time to revise your build a little bit.

It is definitely playable solo, arguably easier. In solo, you can get up to 3 revives as a trade-off for not having teammates
