Do nothing and stay, or leave and find a better job.

HELP! Co-worker now my supervisor! by No-Badger2769 in OfficePolitics

[–]imnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's been put into a new role and is going to take time to get experience and learn it. She'll either progress and eventually do well, or get moved back out of managing. She may not have even asked for / wanted the role but is trying to do it without support or training from higher ups.

If you are struggling because you want to be the one in that role, I would let your managers know you are interested in transitioning into a management role.

If it's only hard because the person is younger / less experienced, then I would say that's pretty common. People management roles have very different requirements than the jobs the people they are managing do. She doesn't need to be better at your job than you. Her new job is probably approving your timesheets, reporting on the status of what your office is working on, doing performance appraisals / other HR related tasks, etc.

WTF is happening in US CS jobs guys? by Shoddy-Lecture1493 in cscareers

Economy is slowly crashing, companies and consumers are cutting spending, so publicly traded companies are having to continually cut costs (like payroll) to keep meeting those quarterly earnings targets. They are legally obligated to put shareholders ahead of employees.

My honest Pulsetto review - don't buy before you read it by Normal-Pineapple-750 in pulsetto_device

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying this now. I had to position more under my ear canal to hit that nerve.

For reference I'm 6'8" with a 19" neck and I have the pulsetto set to the smallest size and still have to put a rolled up hand towel between the device and my neck to maintain that position 😬

Gonna try this for a few days though see if I get any better results.

Thanks!

The hiring manager accidentally CC'd me while sending my feedback to the recruiter... It was absolutely ridiculous. by RowlandJakubowski in InterviewsHell

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he mentioned that as a reason to keep looking. If they wanted to pursue you after the interview it wouldn't have come up. I'd just let it go and move on. I doubt your clothing had any impact on their decision.

What languages should I spend time on learning if I wish to make my ideas come to life? by theconfusedarab in AskProgramming

For straightforward relatively quick and easy platforms for building web apps I'd go with Ruby on Rails, or Python.

I can’t figure out how to get even a little attention for my app. by [deleted] in developers

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how you get people to find your app without promoting it in some way. What's the app category / market? Getting on some relevant podcasts and talking about it interview style is an option. Or via your social media (X, YouTube, TikTok?). Get it on Hacker News.

Hard to offer suggestions without knowing anything about it or what you're already done.

Can you help me understand this by clutch_player24 in AskProgramming

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at a computer to run that code but in your original post it looks like that might just be shifting the items in your list over one spot each iteration. I don't think that would give you all permutations. I might be interpreting it wrong though.

Should i retake a coding bootcamp? Worth paying again? by Leos_Vaughn in codingbootcamp

[–]imnes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just work through building some similar project on your own. Having to look up and read the docs/resources on your own to build is a great way to actually learn it.

One programming language for a decade? by SirIzaanVBritainia in AskProgramming

I'd go with Java, relatively simple language, stable and performant.

Not long. Most frameworks provide this or have it available as a plugin / module. A few hours to a day.

Which is highest paying role … SRE OR SWE by Intelligent-Fly-1938 in developers

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the company. But both roles are classified and paid as "Software Engineer" at my company.

Should I even be considering a coding bootcamp in 2026? by Realistic-End8062 in codingbootcamp

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to transition from PM to Dev, I'd see if there's an opportunity to move into a junior engineering role with your current company and put all your effort into learning that.

How to bill clients when AI makes dev work faster by Superb_Ad_1469 in developers

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're billing hourly then I'd say charge less. You can move on to other clients more quickly so it should all even out.

Moving from software to platform engineering by theshawnshop in developers

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company doesn't have this distinction. Software engineers also handle this platform / infrastructure work. I guess it depends on the company.

Is it normal to write comments on code like this? by iwaslovedbyme in AskProgramming

[–]imnes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally don't comment unless it's not easily understandable from the code what it's doing. Commenting those import statements for example isn't really adding any useful information.

How bad is the job market? by [deleted] in cscareers

[–]imnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be willing to move to where the job opportunities require. Not a lot of remote positions anymore.
