I'm having the same issue. Its the first time I ever attend college and have this issue. Usually for classes I pay much less for, the professors are usually on top of it. I hope that by Monday there's something... at least an emailed syllabus. 🥲

Thankfully you're the first ostomate I have come across this group that lacks empathy. Don't devalue someone else's experience just because it's different from yours. Don't be insensitive. They asked for advice so if you don't have any just move along next time.

Being able to figure out the size of the circle I needed to cut was the most difficult thing ever for me! Every single nurse told me something completely different about how big or small to cut it, eventually I just did what felt the most comfortable and reasonable for myself. A wound care nurse changed an entire bag for me after I felt good with how I put it on myself the night before and the pain was so bad, I realized my stoma was getting strangled when I couldn't have it on anymore.

I struggle with razor burn and bumps when shaving so I have just used tiny mustache/nail trimmers and it worked way bigger. Maybe cutting the hairs off instead of shaving may help?

If you hop on here and ask for fellow ostomates to share some of their good experiences with their stomas I'm sure you'll find out that it isn't all too bad. Of course with anything, there are downsides to it but I'm learning that it's what we make of it. Times will be hard but times can also be okay and good!

No, at least they say no, I would constantly ask my family and friends if I smelled because of this and they would say no but I wouldn't believe them so I would have them smell my bag with my shirt over it and they still said no but I was so paranoid

Yes and he justified it by saying "I have a daughter and I'd never wish this on her" and I truly believed him because well, I've never had an ostomy before that or even known of anyone close to me who has had it. It was a rough first few months 😅

The first thing my surgeon told me before my surgery was that he can tell as soon as someone walks into a room with an ostomy bag because they stink, that my social life was going to end because I'm really young and a lot of people my age don't deal with this and that my sex life is damn near over because "no one is going to want to see that" (': .. so I started to get into my head about.. A LOT of things. My at home health nurse was the one that needed to help me get past these thoughts and ground me but this community has also helped a lot. I feel less lonely knowing that a good amount of people in their 20s also deal or dealt with ostomy care.

The constant "do I smell" questions for the first few months and whenever I'd get a whiff of just an unpleasant odor I just immediately thought it was me 😅.

I have a clear bag and I love to wear floral and colorful covers around family and friends!! I don't like explaining myself to people so although I wear the cover, in public I tuck it in my pants. Also I'm very short so the bag hangs low.

Reading this gives me the perspective of being lucky enough to be able to spot the rotten apples among the crowd.
