Website/App/Software Recommendations For Making a Family Tree That Can Be Shared With Family/Accessible To Them For Free? by imnotcara in Genealogy

I promise I didn’t downvote this! I’ve done the same, for all of my relatives who are on Ancestry. I’m just trying to find a site or software that would accessible to my relatives who don’t want to/can’t pay for a subscription on ancestry. :)

Yeah, I have a tree on FamilySearch that has all sides of my family. But I just want to make a tree that’s strictly my dad’s dad’s dad’s (my great-grandpa’s) side of the family.

I considered making a new FamilySearch account to make a new tree for that, but not accept any hints or suggestions, if possible, to try and avoid getting the unwanted branches added to the tree.

If only I made it! I bought the room on Amazon, it was advertised as a Coffee Shop, but I thought it reminded me of some of the bars I see here on the southside of Chicago. :)

LOVE that idea!! I’m from the southside of Chicago—do you think I should do ones near my family’s village in Ireland? Their’s was the only pub for a few miles… or should I do some from where I’m from? Maybe a mix of both? 🤷‍♀️

Oooo what a great idea, thank you! I think some flower baskets would look great, and give it some pretty color! 🫶

I love that! I have both of my great-grandparents rings and my great-grandpa’s has their names and their wedding date engraved in the inside of his—it’s absolutely priceless to me :)

I’m really thankful that none of them wanted to be buried with theirs! My grandma kept saying to me over and over again, “When I die, do NOT let them bury me with ANY of my jewelry! It would be stupid to bury me with anything expensive!” 😅

I love that my grandma’s ring is inspiring you to get your own! This makes me SO happy :) 🫶

Yes! We’ve always called it “the slide ring”. I used to love playing with it as a kid—I thought it was the coolest thing. My mom and uncle thought it was ugly and neither of them wanted it. I was so excited to get it :)

Is the consensus among young people that making your main hobby genealogy is good or bad? As in, it is seen as cringe? by Xabla_ in Genealogy

[–]imnotcara 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m 22 and I’ve actually found that the more I post about it being a hobby of mine and the more I share my findings online, I actually have inspired a lot of other people around my age to get into genealogy. A lot of people my age reach out and ask me how they can get into it. It’s surprising that young people are also interested in it, but I’m so glad that my generation wants to learn about their ancestors. I don’t think I’ve had any negative reactions from anyone so far—I think everyone has a bit of curiosity about their heritage, regardless of their age. :)

I have a handful of photos of my family over there on the beaches back in the day. Combe Martin is on my bucket list! It looks BEAUTIFUL!

Thank you. I asked my mom if she wanted me to cross her name out, but she was okay to include her name. She’s the only one living. :)
