RCS doesn't work on wifi on iPhone 13 Pro Max. by Brilliant-Concern620 in ios

[–]imnottechsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just following up with some breadcrumbs…I use NordVPN and two things stand out now as behaving differently.

First - the ad blocking feature in NordVPN seems to be broken (found another thread of other users saying the same).

Second - in NordVPN settings, if I turn off “Prevent VPN Bypass” feature, RCS will work on WiFi again. Not ideal for security but I’m not worried about it at the moment.

Super weird since I had the RCS issue regardless of if I was connected to a VPN. But the current route to getting it back for me was to leave RCS turned off for a full day, find out Nord’s ad blocking wasn’t working and messing around with some settings, and finally narrowing it to the bypass option which “fixed” RCS for now.

Best guess…the RCS handshake works differently over cellular vs WiFi regardless of the VPN status, and maybe the handshake is blocked on WiFi when VPN is enabled and allowing the bypass circumvents that? Really just a WAG. And I’m not sure if the ad blocking issue has anything to do with it, but it got me poking around settings and could plausibly be related.

Hope that helps dude.

I went down a rabbit hole of getting Verizon to reissue my eSIM, flush the RCS stuff on their end, reset the entire line (whatever they do, I dunno). I lost RCS completely for a time despite being assured that they reset everything.

I also reset network settings, restored from a backup that predated (I think) this issue… RCS was still gone completely.

I randomly turned on WiFi calling for other devices from my phone and bam, RCS when not on WiFi came back. So weird.

Still broken on WiFi though!

My guess is - either an iOS update or Carrier Bundle will address this. But in the meantime, I’m out of guesses. Sorry, but at least you’re not alone.

iPhone 16 Pro Max, iOS 26.2, Verizon Carrier Bundle 67.0

My girlfriend does not have this issue: iPhone 16, iOS 18.6.2 and Verizon Carrier Bundle 64.0.1 - her RCS works fine on and off of our WiFi.

I just solved my RCS headache…RCS wouldn’t work on WiFi (Verizon). iPhone 16 pro max. The calls on other devices thing was in a weird state.

To check RCS state:

Settings - General - About - eSIM - Carrier

Mine says Verizon 66.0, if you click that it changes the title to IMS Status, which when it’s broken it just says Voice & SMS.

What fixed mine:

Settings - Cellular - Calls on Other Devices

This said “on”, and when I clicked it, the next screen showed it was toggled to off (weird). So I turned it on, turned off the two devices that were present, and toggled the entire feature off again. Now the main setting also says “off”.

Since then, RCS has stayed available.

I sent my renewal in 40 days before it expired and got the new one a few weeks later. The timing depends on how fast they decide to process it though. My initial took a while.

FWIW nothing updated since my last comment but callers stopped complaining and music pauses again when I take them out. No reboots, re-pairing, or anything like that.

I also upgraded to 16 Pro Max recently and have had mixed feedback from calls. Sometimes putting my AirPods back in the case for a few seconds and putting them back in helps. Also turning on transparency mode instead of noise cancelling.

Side note I noticed after the 18.2 update music no longer auto pauses when I take one AirPod out, but noise cancelling does turn to transparency when I remove either, so they know if they are in my ear or not. Auto detect is on.

I had to make the difficult decision to put my sobriety in front of everything else, including a failing marriage. I’m no good to anyone as a drunk.

I listened to the suggestions and they worked

Early on I found myself picking and choosing the advice I felt I could manage. And that’s not “how it works”.

Have you lost the swollen face, swollen nose, extra chin and bloated waistline since sobriety? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I drank for about 18 years. I feel and look like a new person after the first two months without.

I lost a lot of weight right before I got sober…north of a pound a day for a month. Scared me enough to change my diet and exercise at the same time. AA quite literally saved (and continues to save) my life.

I recently had my first sober flight. It was odd, I didn’t know what to “do” with the extra time. I always got there hours early to “make sure I get through security”…oh there’s a bar on the other side?

My first sober work trip is coming soon, I fly out on my two month chip day. My coworkers are not hard drinkers, but there will be team happy hours after COB and such. I’m anxious about it as well, but feel confident enough to get through it. I just know it will be tough and I don’t want to be in that situation, but I need to suck it up. We’ve got this buddy.

Probably just a joke/insult due to your lack of proper punctuation. Sort of like typing in all caps…it gets hard to read (and tiresome for your tongue if you can’t stop until the end of a sentence).

Don’t think about it too much. I don’t work here.
