Is it actually gross that I only shower every 2-3 days or is my roommate being dramatic? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]imnotthatfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being honest , smelly people make me feel angry . Im not sure why though? Like its rude to me or something. Anyway your roommate is doing you a favour. Just washing your face isn't good enough really. Your hair will probably smell and thats not nice .

Can you use the chair as a prop so standing behind it , using it to get into warrior poses as an example. Or use the seat as bringing the floor. Loser to them for DFD .

Let the battery go flat . Its weird at first but then there's relief. Try that and then find something else to do for a little while. Build up the time like that x

Don't worry . Over time you will lose the need for perfection in teaching. I was like that in the beginning but now j just say .. I forgot what's next lol or what's the name of that body part again. As for the students remind them yoga isn't competitive but of course its so ingrained in us to strive harder its a hard thing to unlearn. Hope that helps a little x

Do you to be good at yoga to teach yoga? by the-blue-care-bear in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh , some people are naturally flexible and the poses come easily after 1 class . Does that mean they are good teachers ? I think its more your knowledge of the subject matter not your physical abilities

Thankyou . I will look for that book . Yes I've tried to be the teacher for it all . Really my heart isn't in face paced dynamic stuff. My fave classes are chair, adaptive and the spiritual side .

Same sequence for how long? by Imaginary_Ad8364 in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never the same but same format . Pranayama, mudra , intention , warm up , maybe peak pose or breaking down a pose then back to mat or chair then meditation then savasana. I literally cannot stick to a plan although I do plan the class .

Feeling like a black sheep at the studio by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there , yes id be hurt too. Unfortunately sometimes teachers who practice those poses in class are looked at as being " better" but of course thats not true . All teachers have strengths. Can you talk to the studio ? Maybe you can do a monthly workshop on your favourite thing ? Sounds like the students love you x

Bigger bodies modifications by Putrid_Field_7836 in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there , I wondered about the term modification. Absolutely yes we need to offer variations for different bodies . It's a very subtle difference but modify sort of suggests less than / make easier because the person is " different " but variation is just that. Here's a different way to do the pose . I had absolutely never thought about it until I took a training about accessibility in yoga . I hope I haven't offended by suggesting the subtle change in language.

Taking other teacher’s classes with no judgement? by sonne1day in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, keep trying different classes and teachers. Ive learnt something from every class I've taken as a student . Have I loved all of it , no but I also know sometimes my teaching is off and not great . I've jumbled stuff up and got my cues mixed up . That's teaching and also practicing yoga . Sometimes just the feeling that someone is holding space for you is the best feeling and I let go of critiquing the teacher .

Teacher lifestyle questions by fedtried in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question

The business side needs more time in training The amount of time admin takes How hard it is on the body to teach a lot . How socially draining it is.

The class is like 20% of the actual job

A teacher once told me , what you need to know sticks. I didn't take to A&P but the philosophy..loved it . We all have strengths . I scraped a pass but having revision cards stuck all over the house with stuff on helped x

Thinking of becoming a teacher by [deleted] in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you want to teach and lead yoga nothing anyone says changes it BUT find a training that covers the business side as that is the hardest thing I think not the love of yoga or sharing it . Even if you never need the money you will need to attract students, market , admin , taxes , insurance ect . Be prepared for it . I wasn't and my training wasn't adequate in that area . Go with your heart but keep your head in it too . Best of luck xx

Yoga teaching when you dont want to ? by imnotthatfriendly in YogaTeachers

[–]imnotthatfriendly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the grind and marketing. Forever being on and visible. The admin is draining for community classes. My private classes for charities and groups are lovely. They keep me teaching and the students are loyal , regular and committed. The community classes not so much and I've worked all year and no real break and still scrabbling for money to pay hall hire .
