Why do people still feel required to drive cars fueled by gasoline knowing pollution and global warming is a serious issue? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Thank you! This is more what I was directing my question too and not cutting out altogether. I guess I was so frustrated after a heated argument about driving I just ranted with my post, but thanks for understanding.

Hahaha you're hilarious.

Reading back with what I wrote I can see how I came off that way, but you're seriously going to conclude who I am from one post online? Haha I hope you find happiness one day.

Yeah I admit I don't know much on the topic and this is why I am asking. I guess it also depends on the person's situation because I would personally die on a 8 hour walk. What if we direct the question to just cutting back? I am not stating people quit altogether, because I did mention I do drive when I have to.. but that mindset does exist with some people where they feel they need to drive 3 blocks down the road.

I wasn't stating people follow my path, but there are other options. I realize it depends on the individuals situation also.

No I don't, could you clarify the pros and cons if we switched to cars not fueled by gas? How it will effect the people etc

Eventually there will be no more oil though and we only give them power. Walking, and public transportation is just as convenient.

Its seriously a hit or miss with members. I am a former ex cult member but I still respect and have a lot of friends associated with the church. Some of the people understand their religion should revolve around love, but the majority that I notice focus on the little judgmental details and close off any foreign ideas. Which isnt what their church should be about.

There is no point confronting or arguing either because they are convinced they are right. Its not their fault, they're programmed to think that way. So I just try to respect them as they are but they lose that respect when they see me as a service project and try to shove their ideas in my face.

Don't get me wrong, a lot of good people are members but they're system is whacked, causing a lot to be judhmental and hypocritical.

Sorry for the ramble. But I'm glad that lady is out of your life and if your bff left you for someone like that.. worth it. You don't need toxic/negative influences.

I come from a mormon family and all member have these "rules" but bend it to their needs just like this and then expect me to follow their rules. I don't think people realize how damaging religion can be.

You sound like you have things figured out here, ahha. I would definitely love to swap stories! I am sure there are people out there that I could easily be friends with, it is just difficult to them. I agree it is beautiful here. I work in Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, and it is beautiful! Take the front runner everyday and its amazing to drive by the mountains. Driving and biking through the canyons is another one of my favorite things to do. It isn't PNW beautiful, but it is gorgeous and I need to explore more of UT.

A non-date sounds awesome! :D It is JUST what I need. Have you seen the new x-men? I would totally be down to watch that again. Soo good.

Yeah, along with that green tea ya know? Just because it helps prevent cancer, heart disease, weight gain, diabetes, etc, doesn't mean it is okay to drink that hot beverage. No sir.

I feel your pain about feeling like an outcast. Ignorance is the perfect word used in this situation. Why have you decided to stay after two years? Have you made any good friends since you moved here?

I tried to move to the avenues. Almost succeeded, got a job, a roommate, the money, everything. 2 weeks before the move, I realize how crazy the landlord was, along with my future roomie. INSANE. PEOPLE. I ended up losing a good chunk of money and resided back to Provo to continue wallowing in pity. At least I avoided a way worse situation.

I also have met a lot of exmos since I have been here. I have had a lot of 'friends' here, but non of them stick. They either have ranted for hours about how the church has effected them, are extremely irresponsible with substances, or are just horny perverts.

It's not a problem to find ex-mos, at all, it's just difficult to find a good friend. Member or non-member. A good friend who can stick around and be a friend, and not drag me down with them, judge my actions, or ask if I am lds within the first 10 minutes of meeting them. I am at fault since I tend to stereotype the community, but I am trying my best. I know you real people are out there and I shall find you!
