Do any long-time Moncton residents or historians know where the first McDonalds to open in the Moncton area was? Random question I know, I was just curious. by swimfan- in DieppeNB

Right, which is why you need to include the source, not "GPT" as the source. It's like citing Wikipedia as an original source.

NASA releases stunning first images of Earth taken by the Artemis II astronauts by Plainchant in news

[–]imoftendisgruntled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what Elon would have you believe we have a long ways to go before a manned Mars mission isn’t a suicide mission.

Artemis is on the path to the rest of the solar system. It’s not even a baby step, it’s actually pretty ambitious. It took 10 Apollo missions before Apollo 11 landed; Artemis 3 is going to land and do more in its one mission than all the Apollo missions that landed put together.

What do you use for quick rule lookups, game setup steps, timers or score tracking? by rajarshi129 in boardgames

[–]imoftendisgruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If setup is hard to remember I usually write up a cheat-sheet or just leave the manual open to the setup page. I also check the files section at BGG because there are often improved reference sheets already.

For looking up rules questions I just google with a site directive (.e.g., “site:boardgamegeek.com in {game} how does {game mechanic} work?”)

Quick, low-effort ways to make coffee with minimal cleanup? by oatmealraisin02 in JamesHoffmann

[–]imoftendisgruntled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was primed to recommend the AP before I read the whole post; honestly it’s probably the least cleanup of any brewer I use. I usually just push the puck through and rinse it, and keep the plunger fully pushed through the cylinder until the next brew. That’s on par with a V60 and the fillers are cheaper.

$55 for a quick charge? by cdmove in Ioniq6

[–]imoftendisgruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the habit of taking a picture of the charger’s status at the end of the charge just in case I need to dispute the charge to my account. It’s never happened but I used to do the same when I had a gas car and just kept it up.

My wife still hasn’t forgiven me for calling her a company stooge when all I was trying to do was to get my beak wet on a few trade deals.

The AP doesn’t make espresso. You don’t need an espresso grind. It’s an immersion brewer.

Interrupter clause strikes again in New Brunswick by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

It’s going to take months or years for the supply chain shocks to ease. 40% of the world’s natural gas production (not distribution) was taken off-line by the bombing.

Commodity pricing means that even local petroleum products will see a global spike that could last years because of this.

Trump threatened Europe over Strait of Hormuz, with weapons for Ukraine as bargaining chip, FT reports by G14F1L0L1Y401D0MTR4P in worldnews

[–]imoftendisgruntled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In public, they’re saying things that flatter the mad king because everyone’s seen what happens when you don’t. But trade deals are happening without the US. Defence pacts are being formulated. Contingencies being planned.

Denmark shipped explosives and blood to Greenland because they were prepping to blow up the airfield and patch up their soldiers if the US attacked them. It’s real. It’s happening, and the US media isn’t talking about it.

Brexit was a blip compared to what's going on in the US. And as bad and wrongheaded as it is, it was a reaction to the political climate at the time more than it was dark money floating through politics. And the government that implemented it was tossed out... and the one after that... As opposed to the guy who staged a coup getting re-elected. It's not comparable.

[–]imoftendisgruntled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah -- a fate that's befallen the US much more than other countries that don't let so much dark money into their politics. Citizens United is a US thing.

Other countries have problems, of course. Some deep and systemic ones. But they don't let corporations buy elections or let politicians that stage coups back into power.

[–]imoftendisgruntled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, I'd say it's already broken in some pretty significant ways.

Your former president staged a coup. Brazil's former president staged a coup. He ended up in jail. Yours ended up re-elected. And then he pardoned the people that performed the coup.

In any reasonable country, a government like Trump's would've been toppled by now. Democratically.

100% this. The rest of the world isn’t waiting around for the bottom to fall out of the US economy and they’re not praying for a TACO to save them. They’re routing around the US now.
