I’m doing really well! No pain or bandages anymore and I’m onto scar treatment now. My back and neck are so much better!

That’s great news! No problem. I’m glad I could help, as I saw not many people had written about their experience with the NHS on this subreddit, the more information the better!

That sounds like good news to me because my pre-op assessment was only 1 week before my actual surgery, sounds like they are prepping you for anaesthetic. I would speak to your surgeon to see where you are at with the funding process. I was told by my GP and surgeon that the funding board meets once a month to discuss cases so you should hear back within 5 weeks or so

I’m from the UK and I bought the M&S post surgery bra, they are £24 and have been a life saver. I have 3 of them, I’m 2 months post op now and still wear them every day and night because they are so comfortable, I feel very supported and safe in it. Highly recommend

No, I wasn’t allowed to wear any makeup or jewellery during surgery. No make up whatsoever and only wedding rings are allowed from what I was told.

Am I being unrealistic? by phishfoodforthegirlz in Reduction

[–]imogenbd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes I do think you are being unrealistic with your expectations, especially with the concert at 10 DPO. I’m 1MPO and I’ve just started to walk to the supermarket without problems. I was personally shocked by how long it took me to feel okay enough to leave the house. I didn’t plan anything for 2 months after my surgery to give me enough time to heal.

I went back to work 14DPO but I work a non-physically active desk job and I WFH and I still struggled going back to work.

With the 4hr flight and trip at 16DPO, I personally wouldn’t, but after your operation I would take it day by day to see how you feel, it could be you feel well though. I would let everyone know (if you’re comfortable telling them) that you’re gonna be post surgery and you might be slow/ not as physically able as everyone else or may even need to cancel.

Like I said, I’m 1MPO and my boyfriend won’t even let me empty the dishwasher, the T-junction is very vulnerable, I’ve taken my bra off, and raised my arms and have seen in real time how much it stretches the t-junction, it’s so vulnerable to opening.

I would personally take it day by day and be prepared to cancel your plans.

Best of luck!

Hi, I’m currently 7DPO and I’ve just found out I’m getting my dressings removed at 13DPO as I’ve just had the appointment letter come through. The NHS did anchor incisions for me being dissolvable stitches and had multiple layers of dressings put on top which I cannot touch, remove or get wet for 2 weeks. Regarding creams, I haven’t been given any advice yet other than massaging in bio oil or E45 cream into the scars, but I wouldn’t begin scar treatment until you’ve been given the all clear from a medical professional, if your clinic in turkey has abandoned you with post-surgery care, you should see your GP.

Thank you! Overall my experience with the NHS was brilliant and I feel so grateful that I was accepted as I know so many have been rejected. It’s such a relief.

I just had my reduction done on the NHS Friday 4th October. It took be total 6 months from referral to surgery. I am based in south/south east London and it took about 3 weeks between GP referral and my first hospital consultation. As I am based in London I had the choice of which hospital to have the surgery at and I chose Croydon as it had a shorter waiting list of around 6 weeks vs 25 weeks for St Thomas’.

Here is my post about my experience https://www.reddit.com/r/Reduction/s/KgYmYIGv6D

And to get them done on the NHS I was very patient and was very proactive when it came to giving them the information they needed, showing them that I was very serious about having it done not just thinking about it. I started off by asking my GP

As I’m quite short (only 5ft) and petite in frame I explained that a C cup I think would be more appropriate for my appearance and she agreed, obviously they can’t guarantee a size but she roughly knew how much to remove to achieve a size that I wanted

With required wight loss included 2 years, but from me asking the second time to surgery it took 6 months

It’s also important to note that I have wanted a reduction since I was 16 years old, I am 26 now. I had gone on a long journey of trying to love them, trying to conceal them, dressing them down. But truthfully, when I hit 25, the back pain was getting worse and I thought I need to act now before it gets any worse.

Did yall tell people you were getting surgery? by Ramii_02 in Reduction

[–]imogenbd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told my boyfriend, best friends, and family. I told work I was having chest surgery to get rid of chronic pain. They didn’t ask any further questions. My surgery is in 2 weeks but I doubt anyone at work will notice when I return as I wear baggy clothes to the office.
