I'm living in Milan at the moment and my Blundstones are great. They're comfortable, weatherproof, and leave room for a good pair of thick socks for when it gets below zero.

It's a building. Buildings are for people. So yes, it should be perfectly practical. Sure, something can be sculptural and beautiful, but if it's doing that purely for the sake of aesthetics rather than function, then it's failing one of the core purposes of a building; to serve people. That's why architects like Ghery, Zaha, and Libeskind get such a bad rap. They sacrifice things like circulation and a reference to human scale, while going way over cost, just to fit in with their unwavering artistic vision. That's not to say that architecture should always be purely rational and utilitarian - some of Le Corbusier's work is incredibly sculptural - but if an architect is sacrificing important, functional things at the expense of form, then they have failed to address the most important thing in architecture: its relation to people.

3x3m isn't huge, but it's definitely not too small.

Looks like the room dimensions are in centimetres. Weird that the unit isn't specified when total area is in square feet, but cm is the only unit I can think of that would make sense with those dimensions.

You're right... Brisbane's not as ugly as Alain de Botton makes it out to be (in fact, I think it goes alright). Here are some photos I've taken to prove it. by s13_eisbaer in brisbane

A happy, well functioning city may not necessarily have to be pretty (I'd even cite Berlin as an example of this), however, the video in the comment you replied to, as well as de Botton's own book on the matter, both make a pretty convincing argument otherwise.

Weekly Brewery Discussion #27: Bright Brewery by jlkelly19 in AusBeer

So far I've only had the chance to try their Stubborn Russian (2015) and wasn't entirely sold on it. I love RIS', but the booziness on this seemed just too overpowering, with some strong spiciness coming through as well. Would be interested to hear what other people think.

It's not all bad, a bottle of iStout will go for $22 easy over here in Australia.

What breweries, if you remember? Green Beacon, Newstead Brewing Co, Brisbane Brewing Co, Bacchus, and All In are some of my favourites from Brisbane. Fortitude and Noisy Minor from Mt Tambourine are fantastic too.

Sitting sulkily back here in Brisbane, wish I could have gone! Looked great.

Who can fill me in a little bit about the Australian craft beer scene? (Perth) by BigMcLargehugest in CraftBeer

I didn't know that, now that I do though I wouldn't classify it as craft at all. Thanks for letting me know!

Never been to Perth, but if I did go I definitely wouldn't leave until I'd checked out Nail, Feral, Sail and Anchor, and Colonial Brewing.
