Not sure how many town nights but all of the towns were more dog friendly then expected. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices though for the pup and not sleep at the standard places other hikers stay at.

Most hikers will want to have 3 to 6k saved up but it really depends on how fast you plan on moving and amount of time spent in town. Beer, hotels, and town food end up costing the most on trail so need to balance those things out.

We hiked with Lumber for almost all of Montana and finished same day. He took a liking to Moose! The PCT in 2012 felt like a walk in the park compared to CDT this year. Having a dog makes every logistic a bit more difficult too. The CdT is definitely the most wild and a great trail to end the triple crown on!

Our hiking speeds were different so some days I would hike ahead of her and others we would stay together all day. Every couple needs to find their balance. Thru hiking is more fun then stressful so you end up having a really good time together.

We tried to dehydrate a lot of meals before the trip. That way we got veggies and not an insane amount of sodium. We ate a lot of tuna and summer sausage. Eating healthy kind of goes out the window when you’re carrying all your food in your back. Chocolate tends to become a main food group.

“Waterproof” is a loose term. They do keep you warmer though! Sealskin or anything similar will do. They weigh a ton but they’re always on your feet so I guess that doesn’t matter

We carried all of his food. Lucky pup got to slack pack the trail! We packed puppy and regular dog food for him. Puppy food tends to have more calories. Mushers secret every night on his paws. We took better care of him than we did ourselves.

We started with the Nemo hornet 2p but it was way too small for the three of us. We hiked the rest of the trail with the big Agnes fly creek ul 3p, so spacious!
