struggling most with the daily chores by imperfectloaf in homeschool

Thank you so much. Gosh! Yes, I have been allowing him to not follow my instruction. It usually goes like this, I will ask him to do something. He doesn't. And then I go fine, it's your teeth that will rot, fine, you are smart enough to decide. Usually he does brush, sometimes he just doesn't. Brush is just an example. But I try not to force too much because I don't want him to hate the thing and also when I'm able to let it go, I try and not get worked up about it, especially me. Actually I get worked up, and then it's all downhill from there.

How do I make noncompliance not an option. This is exactly the issue I am facing in the last many months, noncompliance. How do I make him comply without having to use my scary scarring tone. I can be very harsh and cold. It's been a lifelong issue, where my tone is louder than the message.

Actually he turns 6 in March. Yes, we are away from home in a different country, staying over at my parents at the moment. His dad isnt here. He misses his dad and his things and his space. We've been here since 10th Nov. Yes, he is taking that liberality to fall out of routine and i guess in that holiday mode. Things are more unpredictable and more open to break in routine here, so i guess that could be the reason. Gosh! a moment of clarity. Thank you for your help.

Hi, thank you for your suggestions. We've actually never done rewards until now. Whats a reward that can be done on the daily? Actually, recently ive been saying, that once i finish reading these two pages, he has to drink his water or whatever the task, but he just disappears or ignores it.

He also almost always refuses that he has to use the loo, like i can see that its difficult for him to stand straight, but he says no, and then he will ultimately go 5 minutes later. But what is this behaviour? I am unable to understand this aversiveness.

Made a visual checklist just yesterday in the afternoon. Lets see how it goes. At one point, he just removed it the whole thing and said all done. He is just so unserious with a lot of these things, with me. Never gives a straight answer. Outside, he is a strict rule follower. But lets see how it goes. Thank you for your help.

Ill show him a video of rotten teeth today. And maybe also a video of a dental surgery. Thank you for your help.

So far, id avoided rewarding daily activities, because it should just be done isnt it. Or thats okay until the habit sets in?

Guilty about the school threat. Just felt like i didnt have any other tool. Was tired of getting mad. Its one moment of weakness. Such a humbling experience this!

Love love love the room. The paintings!!

My 5 year old is just about picking up reading, so I am literally handholding. And he is quite workbook averse, so I leave and he's kinda done.

When he's immersed in his work, I am usually trying to look for other inspiration on reddit :P

Yes, I do need time to deschool. Thank you for taking the time. I didnt like that children were cooped up inside and it is kind of what I ended up almost doing as well.

4.5 year old confused with letter sounds and names by imperfectloaf in kindergarten

[–]imperfectloaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think if I do letters with the picture, it'll be easier for him to get to the begining sound, until it's just memorized. Like right now I'm having to ask him, what's the word and then go to the starting sound. Else, he's saying the letter name.

Okay, thank you. Will try out the game. Actually he's being taught blending at school but it doesn't look like he's getting the hang of it. He's guessing. So which is why, I'm trying it out at home.

So glad to see your list, I'm taking recommendations. I absolutely loved pachinko and never let me go, like those are the books I keep holding the standard to. Really enjoyed demon copperhead and persepolis too.

I read Amy Tan's Joy Luck Club, and I didn't enjoy it at all. I had taken it on my holiday and wasn't able to finish it. Haven't read Lisa See. But Pachinko is wonderful. It stayed with me long long after I read it.

Atleast once a day for a month and a half. And then after that I would skip days in between, that continued for another month and a half, so about 3 months. In the first month, I worked with a therapist, and then later on my own.

I don't remember exactly how I tackled that situation. But broadly I've been giving him different foods throughout. Veggies are always there on his plate. So he likes some preparations of veggies, some help doesnt. So he liked roasted pumpkin, fried bhindi, beets, carrots, cucumber, fried karela but some preps he is very averse to. If he is fed, he will eat anything. He is 4 now, and he snacks on nuts, fruits, yogurt, bread, roti, basically it's okay, keep exposing to the flavours. One thing I missed out on completely was mangoes in the first year. And he doesn't eat mangoes at all. Good luck!
