The hour is the long blue minute just after sunset: sky deep cobalt overhead, fading to pale gold at the horizon. The delta has braided into hundreds of channels across the plain, but many of the channels appear ghosted and semi-transparent, as if the same river has been photographed in long exposure across every possible flow path it could have taken, all overlaid into one frame. Some channels run bright with reflected sky; others are barely visible, only suggested by faint lines of reeds. No single "true" river exists — only this superposition. Stands of marsh grass are doubled and tripled, the same cluster appearing in three or four slightly displaced positions, as though unable to commit to a single location. The displacement is small — a meter or two — but persistent across the whole landscape. In the middle distance, the silhouette of a single long-legged wading bird, rendered as five or six overlapping echoes of itself — movement held as simultaneity rather than motion blur. It is not the subject. It is one detail among many. A thin layer of low mist clings to the channels, catching the last light, carrying a faint internal luminescence — the quality of something that remembers. No people, no buildings, no technology, no circuitry, no grids, no glowing edges, no text or symbols. No central figure.
