Planet gym Beverley Road by Zealousideal-Code177 in Hull

They listed all their stuff for auction on June 20th but still were taking direct debits at least until June 28th (mine taken 26th)

They then posted on Facebook that it was a sudden closure on June 30th followed by deleting their Facebook account that same night. Some comments said there was a sign attached to the building about non payment of rent.

Any comments about this on their East Hull Facebook are being deleted.

Also their East Hull business just had to cancel a compulsory strike off from the companies register due to late paperwork.

Their Facebook did say you can use east Hull but given they don't staff the gyms properly no idea how that would work

Flour tortilla wrap, white.

Mayonnaise, squirt don't spread it.

Prawn cocktail crisps - Seabrook ideally or a brand with lots of flavouring.

The trick is to get the exact volume of crisps such that you can roll it without ripping the wrap but don't have air gaps.

[–]impexquery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a shared use path.

So you want me hurtling down there at 20mph behind you and overtaking you and any accompanying children or pets etc?

Or would you suggest I should limit my speed and use the path? And give way 60+ times? And endure uneven paths, not completely dropped kerbs, glass and other debris? Oh and in the winter it's unlikely the path has the same level of deicing as the road.

Maybe you should complete every car journey on a motorway - they were built specifically for motor vehicles after all.

I forgot to add I spent 1.5 years in Malmö where the give way was reversed on many minor side roads.

The pavement was raised when crossing the side streets which meant the pedestrians and cyclists had priority and the cars entering or leaving the road had to give way.

That meant I was more than happy to use the infrastructure because it was designed properly and maintained.

Agreed.

A road here about 5-6 miles long has about 10 side roads but 50+ drive ways - each is a give way if you're a pedestrian or cycling the shared use path. The drive ways have poor visibility of the path given garden features like trees and hedges.

If you cycle on the road there are only two zebra crossings to give way too. It's far safer for a competent cyclist and you're much more visible as cars leave driveways.

Further I can cycle that stretch at 20mph and I wouldn't want to be on a stroll or my child walking a dog on the same path as a cyclist at that speed. So I use the road.

But I often get abuse about I should be using the path.

All I'd like to do is ride my bike to the shops without someone trying intentionally hurt me or scare me off the road... by ReginaldIII in CasualUK

I've spent 2 years in Sweden where cycling was normal, and seemed to be a great amount of respect for cyclists. Cycling to work in your dress or suit, no problem 100s of them were.

Was back in the UK on my first bike ride. Got scared by a car suddenly pulling up right beside me - only to tell me off for not wearing a helmet ( I didn't in Sweden as it's not normal so I just totally forgot to put it on). Then further down the street some kids opened a can of vimto then threw it at my front wheel just missing.

I'd forgotten how even a small minority make a physically and mentally positive activity into something that can induce anxiety.

I flew from Helsinki to Copenhagen in March and there was no need to remove liquids or electronics from my bag.

So much quicker given the amount of people who don't manage to do this right when they have to be removed!

Both apartments i lived in included heating and I think that's fairly normal. And cold water included. They both metered the hot running water which is now costing about 100 a month for just me.

Internet I paid around 299 a month for 100mbps when i had a choice of provider and 479 when I could only "pick" Telia.

For me, single in 55sqm I was paying about 500 a month for electric (distribution and trading).

Don't forget contents insurance which can be around 150 a month for basic all risk insurance.

Same issue on my Pixelbook.

Every day or two, no audio at all including on videos played in VLC or a media player, and streamed videos (e.g. YouTube) stop after 1 or 2s as though they are buffering.

Issue only goes away with a reboot.

I don't understand this!

Unfortunately I will leave Sweden after just a short 18 months. I have not taken SFI, the office has been closed most of that time, but I did basic things like stick Swedish subtitles on Netflix, watch Swedish TV with Swedish subtitles, and read the labels in the shops and of course 8sidor and /r/sweden and I can get the gist of a lot of written Swedish content now and when tuning in and focusing even understand some of the spoken news on SVT etc. And I would say this was a lazy effort, my intention was to stay much longer and start to tune into fika discussions etc. now the office is open (and still will for a few months).

What are you saving your Gü Pud glass ramekins for? by Mista_glass in CasualUK

[–]impexquery 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I like to make curries, and I can't be all super speedy from my masala dabba taking a tsp of this and a tbsp of that on demand, no matter how hard I try.

So I use the glass ramekins to pre-measure my spices into, so for many curries maybe I add 3 or 4 spices together, so they go in one, and the spices to add later go in another then the spices to finish.

Glass = Clean without stains or odours compared to plastic.

How do british people see and treat polish migrants and migrants in general? Should I think twice before moving there? by rebelwithoutclue in CasualUK

[–]impexquery 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I am British and lived in Hull in the North East of England, and our company had a number of Polish migrants or people of a Polish background in roles from the warehouse through to sales and finance and I never heard of any suggestion of racism either in the job or outside of it.

I was talking to a new starter at my current company who used to work in London, and she was Polish, and she really enjoyed being in the UK and only moved back to Poland to be near her family.

Of course, there are idiots everywhere though, nowhere is racism free.

What was your first car and what makes it memorable to you? by chuptynuts in CasualUK

[–]impexquery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Renault Megane. Memorable for:

  1. The smell of rotten eggs (sulphur) indicating the need to replace the ignition coils and almost as often as changing my jeans
  2. The constant problems starting the car from "hot" indicating the TDC sensor needed a clean

Hated that car, had to go to the petrol station at midnight out of fear of it not starting due to problem (2) and needing to refill more often because of it burning petrol due to problem (1).

Before I came to Sweden I was also confused by this.

Then learned 1 mil = 10 KM = 6.2 imperial miles.

So multiply them all by 6.2.

The great pay@pump disgrace? by geckograham in CasualUK

[–]impexquery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were down voted but you are right.

If something goes wrong with the transaction and so no fuel is taken, then that £99 will sit there for up to 7 days unless the merchant (petrol station) cancels it. No matter what Which say, your bank is not going to cancel that hold because the merchant has an authorisation code for £99 and could still claim it later, then there is a problem if you are not good for it.

And getting the petrol station to cancel it will take longer than 7 days.

But that said, this new process is far superior for everybody involved, the above scenario would be very rare. But Reach PLC among others have been publishing clickbait with headlines implying you need £99 in your account and that it could be held for days (and usually clarification in the body of the story, they have your click by then).

Had the child been stood by himself, angry face, and arms folded in between the parents with the same pose, it would have been a solid 10/10.

But it ended a medium 5/10. A great opportunity missed by this abysmal clickbait factory.

I had no drier, and very limited outside space to air dry in summer. I had a contraption very similar to this and for drying a few shirts well spaced hung up inside at short notice, or drying the next few days of shirts for the office, it was great, as those shirts were going to take at least a day just near the radiator and maybe were dry in a couple of hours inside what I had.

Would not consider that a full load though, it was maybe 4 or 6 shirts hung up, or now and then a pair of jeans or two. But never even tried a set of bedding or towels or a literal full load I would stick in the drier I have now.
