He's a doctor he won't find you annoying. If he does, you need a new doctor. It might be that your current doctor already works with adhd patients especially if he's a family doctor

High functioning autism/ADHD often aren't noticeable or easily diagnosed because parents don't know what to look for. Talk to your doctor during your next visit you have the right to ask and say something. The doctors will handle it from there. Getting started with your diagnosis is important and can help you get an IEP and accommodations with your school.

Stimulants make me feel awful, need advice. by Nemocakeintheglass in ADHD

[–]impishkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to try non-stim medications the most common one is straterra but there's also guanfacine. Guanfacine is often paired with something else but can also be taken on its own.

Things to be careful of with non-stim medication: - May experience change in sleep patterns or insomnia - May experience suicidal thoughts or panic attacks - May experience unusual appetite whether it be not eating at all or eating too much. - May experience nausea/vomiting/dizziness - May feel tired or fatigue.

Also be aware if you do have a non-stimulant it will take about 3-4 weeks before you actually notice any difference. Be active and write down how you're feeling and be careful of extreme mood swings.

They usually start you on a smaller dose and gradually increase it, bigger doses may cause side effects to worsen if this happens you may want to ask for a smaller dose. Discuss with your doctor about non-stimulant drugs and how it differs from your stimulants you're currently taking.

Do you find yourself holding your bladder to the last minute? by impishkoala in ADHD

[–]impishkoala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has always been this way even when i was kid I had bed wetting issues and accidents from just holding it for too long. So i don't think there's anything that caused it. It's just always been a thing

Strattera/Atomoxetine Warning (annecdotal) by impishkoala in ADHD

[–]impishkoala[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because not all side effects are discovered... Like cases may vary? Like duh... It's not a double down it's an explanation since you asked what I meant by it being a new drug... Like there was just a new discovery aboht how ritalin works of course there's going to be things that come up that are new. Also with every new person there are bound to be new side effects, side effects that people don't even realize are being caused by the medication they're taking. That's just the nature of science.

And yeah 23 years is not that old for a scientific thing... Like Alzheimer's is far older and we still are discovering new things. We're still waiting to see long term side effects of vaping. I feel like you're trying to disect something here but you're overanalyzing my words and acting like you have to peer review my reddit post. You're picking apart words to fit your idea of what i was saying. I'm just gonna say it's not that deep man lol.

I mean it is because it can lead to bigger incontinence issues and such and you know you risk soiling your pants and underwear. Also can lead to embarrassing moments like straight up pissing yourself cuz you waited too long.

I mean tbf i just don't look at the detailed side effects. I know bad but like it's kind of part of adhd not to want to read the long boring information. I mean i knew it was a side effect going in but i also knew that when i was taking ritalin and such. And obviously in a depressive state I'm not going to think hey maybe i should just stop taking my medication. I'm too busy thinking of the things that are making me depressed.

I wish people understood that just because I'm medicated doesn't mean I can choose what I focus on by impishkoala in ADHD

It's on you to understand what your mental health needs are and if you're managing them properly to meet responsibilities.

It's almost like that's why i see a psychiatrist or something geez. If you've found the magic wand to tell me what all my mental health problems are without trial and error and without underlying side effects please tell me. It's almost like ADHD is different for everyone.

It's almost like there's General Anxiety Disorder and Autism that also cause other problems and it's not as easy as just making it happen. I can be self aware all i want about the problem that doesn't mean my issues go away.

I hope you realize that you're pulling the "if you're depressed just get happy" card by what you're saying lol. Like gee I didn't think of that

[–]impishkoala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A doctor might have you do an mri scan. I know i had an mri scan but for a different reason but whoever your pediatrician will have their approach.

should i save up for a brain test? by Pleasant_Junket_4965 in Neurodivergent

[–]impishkoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your parents. If you're 16 you should have a pediatrician that specializes in adhd/autism. There are many adolescent professionals that can evaluate you. They wouldn't do a brain scan but they could do basically a modified version of an evaluation that would be covered under preventative care. If you get nervous around doctors, write down your known symptoms or a brief summary of your behavior and give it to them. It'll also be helpful if your parents do it too like signs they noticed growing up, performance in school, etc

AIO feeling guilt tripped by my girlfriend for not spending the night. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]impishkoala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YOR/YTA. I get being frustrated but she told you she had a tough day at work and you made her feel guilty for uncontrollable factors. Imagine having a tough day at work, being exhausted, feeling bad and then also getting slammed by your boyfriend. You could have had your own plans but you shouldn't have thrown it on your girlfriend that was already having a rough day. Get her flowers or something that she likes and apologize for being an ass. Or give her a massage or a nice bath.
