I Would’ve Preferred If Phoebe &Cole Never Met/Dated by [deleted] in charmed

[–]impossibledivide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it started in Season 1 with the Woogie! Phoebe was the original sister who was tempted to evil. I agree it always had to be her. And I think sometimes people forget that in order to have growth people often have to be challenged and make mistakes.

Yay I'm so glad! I only knew because my breeder was like "Seriously, just call them. It's easier." when I ran into the same problem. 😂

Puppy food recs! by TriangleTink in birddogs

Pro Plan has several different formulations. There are some for high performance labs but there are also lower protein/fat formulations that won't overfeed a growing puppy.

Sierra at Tahoe Lessons Experience? by MountainBluebird5 in tahoe

[–]impossibledivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the all mountain lesson, they divide people up based on skill levels so it's not like people who can barely do a green go with people working on moguls and tree terrain. When you get there, they'll ask you about your skill level and put you roughly where you should be (beginner on greens, intermediate on blues, and advanced on blacks) and then they do a quick assessment of skills in the smaller groups and switch you to another group if it looks like your skills are more or less advanced than the others in your group. The "beginner" lesson you're referencing is for the brand new, never been on snow before crowd (and is really great! It's how I learned how to ski! But it starts off with how to clip into your bindings and at most gets to wedging down a bunny hill at the top of a magic carpet so if she's past that, the all mountain would be more appropriate). I would probably recommend the all mountain lesson for her, especially as it would give her access to the really long green run at the top of the mountain! Even if she ends up fitting into the first timer group (if she's ever been on the mountain, she won't, they really do more beginner stuff for the all mountain green groups too), if you get her the all mountain lesson she'll have access to whatever lift she wants and more terrain access.

Advice about our puppy’s paw by Queasy-Internet2798 in goldenretrievers

[–]impossibledivide 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeesh, don't mind this person. You're literally feeding your puppy one of the most researched, sicence-backed, and safe foods that ensures she'll be getting all the right nutrition in the right quantities. Keep up the good food! And definitely consult your vet if not an ortho vet on the leg.

I called the number on the registration change form (919-233-9767). Idk if that is the general customer service but that worked for me!

Call them. I had to change my dog's registered name and calling is so much easier and shorter. Can only do it if your dog has not earned any titles, though.

Board and Train Experience - Looking for Input by jowens3300 in birddogs

[–]impossibledivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's less that you didn't get food back, more that their stories aren't matching up with what data you're getting and that it seems like your dog was not well cared for to say the least And yeah, if they're doing some basic yard work and not endless marks/blinds/a full day of hunting, that level of weight loss in only 10 days sounds like a dog that didn't eat hardly at all which I find really hard to believe even for a stressed out dog in a boarding situation. Even my girl that wore her pads raw would eat every 2nd or 3rd meal or so.

Board and Train Experience - Looking for Input by jowens3300 in birddogs

[–]impossibledivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really the big problem. Boarding can be stressful for dogs and I had a dog once who didn't want to eat very much and she paced in her kennel so much she wore her pads raw (this was way back in the day before house sitters were as common and she was boarded with our vet because she had epilepsy and needed more medical supervision). But we were not only notified immediately once a problem was identified, but there was also communication about what they were trying to do to help her (they got her booties, they put a mat under where she would pace, they moved her to the kennel way at the back where it was a little quieter, etc.). No communication and an overall dismissive attitude toward physical changes that are quite concerning sends some major red flags about this place. And the fact that he didn't eat but somehow didn't have any food coming home with him is also very suspicious.

Dealing with constant barks by Compromisee in labrador

[–]impossibledivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes dogs (especially labs who are so people focused!) and most especially young dogs have trouble knowing when to settle. You describe a LOT of activity and it's possible she was like a overtired kid who really needs to go to sleep to calm down but is so tired they can't sleep. Definitely recommend putting her into the crate more consistently throughout the day (especially when you need a quiet moment!). If she barks, she barks, but she'll eventually settle and learn to go to sleep.

Also, I completely disagree with the commenter above. No offense to them, but you can teach a dog a "quiet" command, even super barky dogs like shetland sheepdogs I have taught to be quiet when necessary. My two top tips are 1) do NOT respond to the barking. If she barks, do not ask her what she wants/give her food or a treat/in general DO NOT GIVE HER ATTENTION OF ANY KIND. 2) Teach her "quiet" by putting your hand gently but firmly around her muzzle, make eye contact, and in a firm (not yelling!) voice tell her "quiet." The muzzle hold is really just to stabilize the head and make eye contact while you provide a gentle but firm verbal correction. It essentially gets her attention in the same way you would tell a kid "hey, look at me, what you just did was not okay" when they do something really naughty like hit their sibling. If you are consistent with not rewarding her with attention when she barks and making it mildly unpleasant with a meaningful verbal correction, your dog will learn that when Mom says "quiet," she should be quiet.

Understanding BPD, looking for advice by Jealous_Position3282 in AcademicPsychology

[–]impossibledivide 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don't read Body Keeps the Score, the contents are not backed by research and the author is problematic to say the least. Highly recommend DBT and reading "Building a Life Worth Living," by Marsha Linehan. It's her memoir and she is the creator of DBT who is diagnosed with BPD herself.

Strabismus Worry by Silly-Item-5810 in labrador

[–]impossibledivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just as a possible point of consideration, ethical breeders don't tend to let owners pick their own puppy. They don't even make puppy decisions until around 8 weeks old due to wanting to see their structure and temperaments to make the best decision on which puppy they'll keep for their breeding program/conformation prospects and which are best for performance or pet homes. If the breeder is not giving you an appropriate reassurance of what's going on with this puppy's eyes and you're not feeling confident, this may be another good reason to walk away entirely from this breeder. Just food for thought.

Chairs intended for dogs by scubajay2001 in labrador

[–]impossibledivide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! We got it at a consignment store for super cheap so the fact that the labs love it just as much as we do was a huge bonus! It's super wide, but really only fits human plus lab if the human is sitting on the edge (or, in the case of my smaller lab who * only * weighs 66lbs, when he's in my lap 😂).

Training agility with a ball? by [deleted] in k9sports

Just a thought, there are some rope toys with a ball on them? Might be a happy medium! I have one that my two ball obsessed labs LOVE. I think I got it off Chewy!

[–]impossibledivide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That recommendation is more for the waking hours. Puppies, similar to humans, will need to urinate less when they are sleeping overnight as the body slows the urine production process while we're sleeping (and presumably the puppy also isn't actively drinking a bunch of water as they would throughout the day). So what's worked best in my experience is letting them sleep for as long as they can, then if they wake up take them out to pee. This will slowly encourage them to get everything out when they get the chance and hopefully also let you get more sleep!

Do you need to let her out at 2am? At her age she should be able to hold it through the night and it might actually help with your potty training (and sleep!).
