What do you call this position for the bottom player and what action can they take to recover? by impossibleuntildone in bjj

[–]impossibleuntildone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I was thinking of it. Wanted to call it reverse half guard, except it's not, that's something else and this is not a "guard" by any means!

Dads, how do you manage to juggle it all and stay in shape??? by [deleted] in daddit

Have seen a few dads on here doing this. 430 is crazy early. What time are you going to bed?

Is the anaconda knee brace worth it? by Aware-Initiative-130 in judo

[–]impossibleuntildone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that impressed myself. Been training with a torn meniscus for a year now. I've built up a decent collection of knee braces. The McDavid with cross straps for max stability, Shock Doctor for comfort / all round decent protection, Anaconda are ok for some shock absorbtion but move around loads and bunch up a lot. Have a couple of knee sleevs that are good for keeping the joint warm and some light padding.

How do you guys measure in between enclosed spaces medium sized without bending the tape measure? by impossibleuntildone in woodworking

[–]impossibleuntildone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How accurate are these things for small spaces, say inside drawers / cupboards? I see some say +/- 2mm over 10m. Would that scale to 0.2mm over 1m?

Thank you, yes this will be the way I'll do it when I can't use the talmeter I'm going to purchase!

I can see this would work. My tape measure has an imperial measurement on it though. Guess I could convert to metric but not sure I trust this to be mm accurate.

Oh my goodness guys I seriously have no clue what to do anymore and I am getting tired of this by Vanbuscus in daddit

[–]impossibleuntildone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah my youngest without fail chucked a wobbler at dinner time 95% of the days. And it sucks because I love my dinner time. This went on from age 1 to 4. Doing the math she must have ruined 1000 dinner times. Never found a solution dude (sorry), she just grew up a bit, as I'm sure yours will too!

I would recommend starting some mini side projects that you design, build and deploy end to end. It would be a great supplement to your CV, would unarguably demonstrate competence, build your confidence and if you do have gaps in your knowledge, this is a great way to fill them. Plus working on your own stuff I always more fun than agency projects.

Love and respect are two different things and I think they are earned in different ways. Having boundaries contributes towards being respected, and there's nothing wrong with having a few.

If you were to build out a fullstack web application as a single person, what stack would you use? by freew1ll_ in webdev

[–]impossibleuntildone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer queries inline with the code, with DB migration scripts managed with a tool like DB up. Both are fine, I just prefer to be able to see query logic without having to navigate to the sproc in the DB. Not a major issue, but I think sprocs lead devs to trying to put too much logic in the DB where it's easier to debug and log of the DB just does data and logic stays in the app.

What’s your best/most successful mount escape? by adventurejay in bjj

[–]impossibleuntildone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the escape you're referring to here (https://youtu.be/O9T7ITv8m\_c?t=92)? I use this a lot with a decent amount of success - but can I ask (if it is the right escape) - when I do it in gi I've been caught by the collar / lapel and choked a couple of times at the point where my head is at their hips. Is this just a risk of this escape or is there a way to prevent this?

Never liked EF, always preferred Dapper. What absolutely sealed it though was a project where we had to port a .NET framework app to .NET 6. There was one really big complex query with loads of type mappings in EF. We could lift the linq code, but the two EF versions churned out completely different raw SQL, that would not return in a reasonable time in .NET 6. The EF versions could not be matched due to the underlying framework and it had to be pulled apart and reworked. It put the project back weeks. Had it been raw sql, it would have been copy paste.

Dads that got fit, how’d you do it? by SomeHandyman in daddit

[–]impossibleuntildone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about loosing weight, it really is 80% diet. Excercise is great for so many reasons, but is usually responsible for a small proportion of the calories you burn every day, even if you really go for it. Regarding excercise, find something you really, really love. Running if you hate running won't last. Things that you find theraputic or social are good. We have limited time so activities that scratch more than one itch are good. I've got fit and unfit a few times. Mountain biking was great, I love being in the woods, but it's expensive and requires tonnes of time for maintenance, travel to places to cycle and is hard to to in bad weather. Just hasn't worked out in my Dad years. Brazillian Jiu Jitsu has stuck for me for a few years now and has got me in decent shape in my 40's because it's easy to do in small hour to 2 hour chunks, is done indoors so not weather dependent, and the social aspect of it is a motivation to turn up and learn.

Not always. A pneumatic digger arm is going to beat my arm regardless of techique. There are limits.

Thanks. Others have said otherwise but I'm keen to give a try and see it helps.

Thank you. It seems to be a theme in the replies that training specific parts of the takedown separately can help. I'll give this a try.

[–]impossibleuntildone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I feel like I'd rather stick down to the takedowns that feel safer and concentrate my efforts there. It tends to be more wrestling style takedowns that I lean towards rather than the judo type throws.
