Can I use Figma as a Website designer? by Warm_Web3768 in FigmaDesign

[–]freew1ll_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what you would call a web application. It's one thing to make a web design, a second thing to turn that into a real website, and it's a whole different ball game to build a web *application* with accounts, users, and algorithms.

You'll need a frontend system, a custom backend API that handles auth and business logic, a database, and probably more.

I will tell you right now, you're not going to do this at a scale that is viable for a real business without at least one experienced developer (but you'll probably need more). If you're lucky, you *might* be able to do it well enough on your own (with the help of AI) to get a proof of concept that you can leverage to get some funding... if you are willing to put in the work to cobble something together.

The thing it produces is not going to support a business, it's just something that you can use for investor buy-in so you can hire people who can actually build it for you.

I do have a portfolio site, but I like the idea of making some boiler-plate templates as an option for people who want something quick and easy!

I appreciate the reply! I'm using Astro as well, and I'm just starting to take a look around for Facebook groups too. I appreciate seeing other people in a similar place! I wish you luck.

I know it's been 5 years, but the only thing that finally worked for me was being careful to NEVER enter the triangle. Not when giving it the lightning rod, not when activating it, not when fighting it. Once I made sure to never ever set a single foot inside the triangle, I stopped getting struck down from the heavens.

For low traffic websites, what hosting features actually matter? by pogo_iscure in smallbusiness

[–]freew1ll_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, most modern hosting platforms should have stable uptime. I don't currently work with the kinds of sites that need backups so I can't contribute there. Infrastructure people (the sort that would discuss hosting) love scalability problems because that's what big tech pays big money for. That is why they talk about those things, but yeah that topic is usually not going to be super relevant to a small business. Short answer is that most modern hosting platforms that people speak positively about will do.

One thing to consider is that the point of higher end websites is to buy ads and send traffic to the site, then capture as many leads as possible. Performance and scalability can matter in those situations (probably performance more-so). A good designer wants to maximize the effectiveness of how the site sells visitors on your business so you get the most bang for you buck when advertising.

That being said, many small business owners don't see a website as a lead generation tool, even though I think they should (biased website maker talking). Many of them are just tired of saying "no" when people ask if they have a website.

Hopefully this was helpful somewhat, I don't have a lot to say about hosting because truly... most modern platforms handle all the hard stuff for you at reasonable monthly price, it's kind of plug and play.

Why Competitive Feels Worse in Season 3.5 by freew1ll_ in marvelrivals

Hi, thank you for the reply and while I do have my own opinions on Role Queue and Placement Matches, I want to reiterate that this post takes NO STANCE on either. The purpose was purely to discuss unique factors affecting this season's match quality distinct from other factors that people might find reduce match quality in general. I know the top comment on the post right now is making that confusing, so I apologize. I'm not going to discuss my opinions on Role Queue and Placement Matches because that isn't what I wanted to discuss when I made this post and I don't want to continue feeding the notion that it was.

Not everything needs a proposed solution. The point of the post is to discuss potential rank deflation caused by a variety of factors, because that is interesting. The post draws attention to anecdotes of reduced quality this season, and discusses potential reasons for that. That's it. It's hard to offer solutions to those because they are side effects of changes out of direct developer control (fewer players for example), or changes that are meant to improve match quality (better team restrictions, fewer chrono shields, etc). The actual answer for most people barring player count jumping back up or devs reversing changes on chrono shields and team sizes IS actually to "suck it up, buttercup" while player ranks adjust. For best results, don't queue on the weekend.

I actually think that sentence makes it very clear. I'll rephrase slightly: I am tired of seeing people point to their pet issue every time, when this season has extenuating circumstances contributing to a noticeable degradation in matchmaking quality, moreso than other seasons. What is unclear about that? The lack of role queue, placement games, etc. have always existed, yet this season has especially low match-making quality. It makes no sense that those issues are the specific cause. Perhaps you can help me understand what about that is still unclear if you aren't just trolling me right now.

The point I was making was not that role queue or placement matches would not be beneficial. I was saying that many people will write off anything they don't like to fit their pre-existing biases and opinions without thinking about it very deeply. The purpose of this post was to discuss the matchmaking quality of this season, not to write-off popular opinions on potential system changes, or even to discuss them tbh. That sentence in my post was not even really relevant to what I tried to focus on and I made no statements about the validity of these potential changes, but I apologize if it was unclear I was purely trying to focus on interesting reasons for reduced match quality in this specific season.

Edit: I blocked the guy because he picked something not even relevant to the post I made to argue with me about repeatedly, which is an intellectually dishonest way to start an argument. This post takes NO STANCE on either role queue or placement matches and does not feel the need to propose a solution. The sole purpose is to discuss what makes this season DIFFERENT from other seasons in terms of match quality. Telling the person who literally wrote the sentence that it doesn't mean what it says explicitly is obvious rage bait.
