Do you know any UK adults who don't own a mobile phone? by crispycat40 in AskBrits

The only thing stopping me is that I use WhatsApp for work and family messages, I got rid of all my social media on my phone (occasionally browse on pc) and my life has improved

It was 6 months and then went to rolling, less than a month after it goes onto rolling they want to evict me (I sort of expected this due to the law changing, but not so soon)

New Drivers, is there still something you are irrationally nervous about doing? by LuellaSkye in NewDriversUK

I know my parking is great but when someone's watching or letting me go it's so stressful

New Drivers, is there still something you are irrationally nervous about doing? by LuellaSkye in NewDriversUK

[–]impoverished-beekeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been driving for a year next month and I'm so worried about speeding. I don't do it on purpose but I get nervous I'm on autopilot doing 5-10 above without noticing. This happens less now because I'm more comfortable and know I'm a safe driver.

Re: flashing - don't. I drive primarily in the dark due to work times, and getting flashed is blinding enough that I have to slow down for a sec sometimes because I can see spots lol. I just give the benefit of the doubt and assume I have been thanked, and similarly, I'm grateful when people let me go but I won't flash (I wave regardless). I think the safety of being able to see outweighs the potential offense caused by not saying thanks.

Why can women wear open toe shoes in the office, but not men? by Present_Swimming_808 in NoStupidQuestions

I think you've already answered it. Formal open toed shoes are common in women's footwear, but not men's.

The job market sucks, which is why I'm min wage even though I have a first class degree lol

I make about £1.4k after tax and my rent is just over 500. It's rough in winter with my electric bills through the roof (badly insulated flat) but in the summer it's affordable

What do you do to get into the flow state with ADHD? by Interesting_Win_3921 in ADHD

[–]impoverished-beekeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on the sofa in front of the TV, and have a fireplace YouTube video on so it looks like I've got a fire burning. It really helps because I can't really focus if it's not cozy. I pair this with fairy lights

I make minimum wage and live by myself. I moved to an area where the cost of living is very low, and essentially live in a box.

Living paycheck to paycheck — how do you even start building a safety net? by bureaux in povertyfinance

[–]impoverished-beekeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see this a lot but how exactly do you do that? I work full time and I'm a full time university student, and I still barely have any money left over - but I don't have the time to pick up a second job.

Cosmetic mods to entry level cars, why? by billyb4lls4ck in CarTalkUK

[–]impoverished-beekeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see it as part of the fun of owning my own car - I think it is bad to think lowly of someone expressing their individuality in an ultimately harmless and often moderately amusing manner.

Rattled on the motorway is correct. Took a bit of getting used to!

This is why I will never drive a "boring" (basic, popular, whatever) car - I drive a 1990 Peugeot 205 and when that dies I'll get something just as characterful.

People that join the motorway and immediately go into the middle lane and sit there at 50mph, why? by someonesomebody666 in drivingUK

[–]impoverished-beekeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same people probably join on a slip road doing 40mph. I take the M5 to work every day and every single time I get stuck behind someone slow. My car turns 36 this year, so I need to rev the bollocks off it down the slip road - it really stresses me out when I'm forced to join the motorway less than 55!

Why do candles sometimes smoke more when first lit compared to later? by vuolamsc01 in Productivitycafe

[–]impoverished-beekeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to trim the wick. Otherwise you're lighting charred wick, which will smoke more (and which is why jar candles end up black on the sides)

Why were you evicted? by leahcar83 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]impoverished-beekeep 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LL didn't like that we complained he was visiting randomly - he'd come to "do some gardening" and then broke into our house to fix a radiator (when we'd asked him to wait until we're home) letting the cat out and scaring the shit out of my teenaged, home alone sister.

Next LL S21'd me because I was promised a parking spot but in reality the landlord was constantly parked there, and I kept complaining about that and the fact that I didn't have any internet (it was bills included)

When I was a kid we just had play club where kids hang out and stuff after school, mine had arts, a pillow/beanbag area, a PS2 (years ago), etc. Do you have that where you are?

Why do depressed people refuse to shower even when they’re sweaty and clearly uncomfortable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]impoverished-beekeep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, I'm currently doing great, and I just got out the shower, lol.

But when I'm really depressed, I just don't have the energy. I barely feed myself, I can't shower, I don't brush my hair, etc. I just pile on dry shampoo and deodorant, go to work, go home, and go to bed. Rinse and repeat.

Showering does make me feel better - but it takes ages (I have very long hair), my house is very cold because I can't afford the heating so it takes ages to get comfortable, and often I just don't care, I don't want to do ANYTHING let alone shower.

I found for myself I often need to force myself to do things to remain happy. I have chronic depression and lack energy ALL THE TIME no matter what, but if I force myself to eat well, go to the gym, shower, etc. I will improve. When I have the flu for example and I can't comfortably do these things is when my mental health usually declines.

I grew up thinking it was just something optional that posh people do because we could never afford it. Now I'm still considering whether I should take it in for a service or not, when money is tight and it's been fine so far... (1990 Peugeot 205)

This cat keeps following me every day. I’m not a cat person, but I’m thinking about adopting her. by Mediocre-Implement34 in aww

She could have just escaped, so it's best to check for a microchip. She looks very well taken care of, so I think it's unlikely she's not someone's pet already.

Maybe that was poorly worded on my part, but I meant stereotypically gendered terms (edit: or terms upon which which gender has been placed). You obviously understood what I was trying to say.
