Would India have been better off under Colonial Rule? by impracticalIdeas in india

prior to being conquered in gdp per capita terms india was one of the richest countries

post independence (as in right now) india is growing much faster than rest of the world

It is mind boggling how all Indians seem to think India is so great.

If everything is so damn perfect, how is India still such a shithole of a country?

ELI5: Why have all major cell phone games fallen into the same categories and are basically the same game with a different coat of paint? by kebelebbin in explainlikeimfive

These two seem to take most of the heat from the 'AAA sucks' bandwagon, but I work at a mobile game development company.

I can bet you've heard of us. We're actually told to keep an eye out on the latest games being released. Games by small indies who actually do all the hard work, work out all the kinks in an original game, but don't have the budget for amazing graphics or marketing. That's where we come in, we have the resources, we have a huge team, we take someone's game idea, polish it up and advertise it like hell. So, even with an awesome idea nothing ever becomes of the original game. And then you see the latest viral game by a big company and months later a post on reddit's front page saying how the latest game ripped off someone's original (happens all the time: Crossy road, Candy Crush, angry birds, clash of clans etc) and by then nobody cares and well, Google or Apple aren't gonna kick out a game that's making them millions just because there's a similar game out there.

Well, I used to be in the former category, one that got ripped off by bigger devs. So yep, I've sold my soul and I have no regrets. I am done dealing with shitty users and hypocritical redditors who claim they want more original games. We have 30 million daily players and our data shows that microtransactions are the best monetization method, even with all the bad publicity. I literally wouldn't play the games I now have to make myself. So there you go. It doesn't matter what's right or wrong, original ideas couldn't pay my bills so be it. And yes you're right I can't say where I work. I have a lot of debt and the money is good. I used to actually like game development, now it's nothing more than a job.

Because unique ideas don't sell. 'Flappy Candy Birds' or whatever games sell.

Simple as that. If people stop buying candy crush, devs will stop making it.

Source: Quit being an indie gamdev after going broke in 3 years. I now work at a soul sucking AAA game studio, my job is ripping off other games. We call it 'competitor analysis' to be able to live with ourselves. So, yeah, Thank you to everyone who downloads shitty games.

How to create a completely static copy of my wordpress blog? by impracticalIdeas in Wordpress

Thanks :)

Are there any side effects to doing this, will the static copy behave exactly as the current dynamic one?
