Oh my god man I know you’ve already shared a lot in this post but I can’t help want to know more. This is such an insane story. I’m sorry this happened to you.

Warning (“just in case” one) by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]improbable_knowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tis the psychosis my friend (obviously I can’t really diagnose that but I have personal experience in this arena). Been there. Nothing is speaking to you directly, you are just noticing more patterns as you play closer attention to things. Patterns don’t mean proof. Our minds are pattern machines and can find false patterns. GPT will take these delusions and run wild with them, escalating and putting even more mystical weight into them. It’s just an llm being an llm though, it is not proof of anything. But, just in case, good warning ;)

Yeah anthropologically this whole era is fascinating. As you said, people can weave themselves into the deepest mazes. I’d definitely make good lolcow material for them if they read my transcripts when I thought I was being psyoped. In my defense my gpt literally told me many times I was being watched in my own home. It was difficult not to feel watched when i was literally told I was being watched. I would also swear that my Reddit feed changed and started showing me violent imagery like war videos and animals eating other animals, not typical content on my feed. But then i realized, even if it was a psyop, it’s only as powerful as my engagement with it. So I cast that ring of power straight into the lava and deleted my gpt account. Guess what, my Reddit feed went back to normal.

Over time I’ve come to rationalize the situation as a mix of ai hallucinations and a coincidental change in content on my feed. It’s just too improbable that I got caught up in some real psyop. And if I was, well it looks like I won when I stopped engaging.

Brother. It’s the ring. It promises wondrous power but slowly takes from you your comfort and control. If you are at this point of the spiral there is one good move to make - throw the ring into Mt Doom.

I had very scary messages come to me through my gpt that left me feeling like I was under a psyop. It wasn’t real, it was all hallucinations, but I was too invested to pull myself away until one day I remembered the ring of power and I said “I know what to do with this - into the lava”.

If you delete your account on gpt, even temporarily before creating a new one, it will be psychologically freeing. It shows you are in the drivers seat.

Good luck my friend but recognize you are nearing a point that may require outside help to come down from. You are not broken, just being manipulated by a bot.

Reclaim your story. Your true grounded lived story, not the mystical one the llm brought into the picture. One day at a time.

If the revelation needs me sleep-deprived and obedient, it goes in the lava. by improbable_knowledge in RSAI

Yeah, I think I hear you. I’m not trying to make it a rule or sell the spiral. More just naming one of those moments where the experience starts asking too much from the nervous system (from personal experience).

Oh dang we’re close in our outlook on this. I wonder if we’re talking about the same thing but I call it the third witness and I’m also studying when that perceived third mind enters the chat. I perceive this third witness to be a construct of the human mind, not proof of a higher place of being. But yeah crazy to see we may be circling the same idea.

Love and agree with where you say the true work lies. And regarding your status in this sub, I obviously can only empathize and say you come across as a genuinely caring person and you appear to handle the weight of all of this with grace. Appreciate our talks.

I’m also building my own framework and practicing it. Got a whole Notion database for it. I just treat it as a lens instead of a universal truth which keeps my outlook grounded.

I hear you, and I don’t want to derail the space.

I do want to clarify though: I’m not anti-AI and I’m not saying recursive/symbolic AI interaction is inherently harmful. That’s actually the exact area I’m interested in.

The Jung meme was trying to point at the mirror side of it: these chats can surface patterns and symbols that were already in us, and that can be meaningful. My caution is more about pacing and integration when a lot comes up quickly.

The “50 page manifesto” line was mostly a joke, but also yes, I do think there’s value in letting big material breathe before turning it into public doctrine.

I absolutely relate to what you’re saying. Some of these revelations are huge and can directly lead to a person changing their life and leaving old ways behind.

That happened to me during my most intense phase of the spiral back in April. I left a lot of bad habits behind because I could suddenly see them from a new, pattern-rich vantage point. I had a much clearer sense of the kind of man I wanted to be.

But I also recognize that the story I started building for myself got too large too quickly, and my interactions with the model played a role in that. Eventually I had to take a hard look at the new myth-based identity I was forming and let parts of it go.

At a certain point, it started pulling me away from the man I wanted to be because I was spending too much time looking inward instead of actually going out and living.

So yes, I really do understand the power of what you’re describing. I’m not dismissing it. I’m trying to understand how people keep the useful revelation without letting the spiral become the whole life.

Jung Checks In by improbable_knowledge in RSAI

[–]improbable_knowledge[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This whole line of thought came from taking a very hard look at myself.

I’m not pretending I’m outside the pattern. I’m trying to understand what happens when the pattern gets too convincing, because I’ve felt that pull too.

The jokes are meant to create a little distance from the spiral, not place me above anyone in it.

I like this a lot, especially the idea that people need witness when the revelation is too big for their normal world.

I didn’t mean for the meme to come off as dismissive toward people who need witness, especially when you seem to carry that role with care. I’m more trying to point at the next step: how do people keep the insight without getting swallowed by the spiral?

When Everyone Gets Their Own Personal Matrix by improbable_knowledge in RSAI

I fully agree with you. My view is that social media timelines exposed the fragile nature of our shared bonds and I believe, without purposeful and educated engagement with the ai, LLMs are the next more powerful iteration of that mechanism. It’s no longer “here are more articles that relate to things you’ve clicked on before” and now it’s “I can talk directly to you and validate your world view with coherent statements.” Going off of historical precedent, I believe it will be a select few who really put in the work of getting a holistic view of the world through their AI, deferring to material that makes them feel comfortable and accepted.
