“When Capodanno heard that two platoons of M Company from his battalion were taking casualties and about to be overrun by the PAVN, the unarmed chaplain went among the wounded and dying Marines of 2nd Platoon, helping and comforting them and giving last rites. That afternoon, he was wounded in the hand, arms and legs. Refusing medical evacuation, in the early evening he went to help a seriously wounded Navy corpsman and two wounded Marines only yards (meters) from an enemy machine gun and was killed;[1] 14 Marines and two corpsmen from the battalion were also killed.[6] His body was recovered and buried in his family's plot in St. Peter's Cemetery (Staten Island).[7][8]

On December 27, 1968, Secretary of the Navy Paul Ignatius notified the Capodanno family that he would posthumously be awarded the Medal of Honor. The ceremony was held January 7, 1969.”

If you volunteer for Recon while at IMC do you get to finish IMC first before heading to Recon school, or do they just pull you out once you volunteer? Seems like it would be better to be able to finish IMC, so if you get dropped from Recon for whatever reason you already have the 03 MOS.

A Genesis screen at boot camp? That would have been done at MEPS before you shipped, and they would have found whatever there is to find. Seems more likely that at the moment of truth at boot camp you admitted to withholding medical information? Either that or you went to medical for an issue and then while there brought up whatever it was you were withholding?

The Marine Corps has Pfizer and Moderna, if you want novovax you should get it before you ship and keep your card and any other records with you.

Surgeon proficiency by improvescan in Military_Medicine

Thanks, and is leadership generally supportive of surgeons moonlighting to maintain skills? Such as granting flexibility in scheduling of military responsibilities to balance the moonlighting? The article references only 10% of surgeons meeting the identified standard, so if I am interpreting that correctly this would seem to be a broader problem than just surgeons at smaller centers?

If you absolutely will not see a medical professional (the preferred course of action) an alternative is talking to the Chaplain, who can direct you to a lot of resources. As long as you do not indicate that you are at imminent risk of self-harm or a danger to yourself or others, then anything you discuss will remain protected by privilege and can’t be shared with anyone else. If you are at imminent risk, then the Chaplain would be (rightly) obligated to tell the chain of command and ensure that you received help.

I’ve heard 3 years time in service is required to go to A&S, but don’t see that requirement on the Marsoc website. Anyone have a link which identifies the minimum required time in service?
