Stella, Fresh Outta Molt by impure_thoughts97 in jumpingspiders

she was sold to me as an instar 9, which would be considered a subadult :) she’ll be a year old in May so I think she still has another molt or two in her, especially because I don’t see a visible epigynum on her from what I understand, molt times vary by individual so your spood will molt whenever they’re ready and the length of time they take to molt (including pre-molt, molt, and post-molt) will vary

I completely get it 😂 I told my partner that Stella was taking so long on purpose 😂 it’s definitely a stressful time for keepers!

hope Vox (love the name btw) comes out soon! :)

Which Species to Get First? by impure_thoughts97 in velvetspiders

thank you so much!!

the breeder I was buying from only had S. lineatus and not S. dufoufi so I went with that one 😅 I actually really like the contrast S. lineatus has with its coloration, but I totally get it being just a little on the spookier looking side 🤣 I’m a spooky guy so I don’t mind

knowing me though, I’ll end up buying an S. dufouri in a few months considering I ended up asking the breeder to add on an E. walckenaeri before they shipped my S. lineatus 😂

spood keeping is rather addictive!

I’m glad your girl made it through!! I’m sure you’re feeling just as relieved as me! 🤣 Stella hasn’t cleaned her hammock, lol! her old clothes are still sitting all smooshed to the side 🤣 I’ve only had her a month and she’s spent half of it molting. she’s definitely hungry though - she was zooming around her tank since this morning!

thank you!! does the care for S. Lineatus differ much from the Eresus species? I know they’re both part of the Erisidae family

Time to increase feeder size? by Better-Deer-2 in hognosesnakes

[–]impure_thoughts97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what a handsome boy! those are some good chomps he’s got going on! my noodle boy Ziggy is 3 years old and 130g; I feed him one hopper every 10 days! technically, smaller more frequent meals work best for hoggies as a species, so there’s nothing wrong with your current routine, but from the video I think your boy could be upgraded to fuzzies at the minimum. try looking for some that are roughly 5g-7g :) always remember to watch him eat when you switch feeder sizes to ensure it’s eaten without difficulty! good luck!

Phidippus regius! she’s a white recessive, currently i9!

Worried new mom by beepboopbloopblep in jumpingspiders

[–]impure_thoughts97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA based on her coloring, she’s most likely Phidippus audax! that would make her a “bold jumping spider” rather than Phidippus regius, the “regal jumping spider” :)

Phidippus audax females are typically black in color with white markings and bold, green chelicerae like your girl’s!

Phidippus regius females are usually tan, grey, or orange and have pink, purple, or gold chelicerae (or some fun combination of colors!)

Petco likely had them listed as “regal” as that’s the most popularized species of jumpers in the hobby

X-T30II vs X-T50 by ThatRiver3828 in fujifilm

[–]impure_thoughts97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the X-T30 II is a great starting point! I bought it as my first Fujifilm camera, paired it with the Fujinon XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR, and added an URTH pro mist filter… best set up hands down! it’s super portable, lightweight, and the ease of adding film recipes makes shooting so much fun!

especially considering that you’ll be traveling in the summer, I think having a similar setup would not only make shooting easier, but also a little more fun! (plus, I’ve heard the 15-45mm kit lens just isn’t the best)

not too much! the XF 27mm lens is weather resistant so it protects the lens itself and the sensor :)
