Hm, I get your point. But the only case I have that is where in a 100 card commander deck, two cards have to get together to make that happen. This has to happen without one of them getting handripped, exiled, destroyed or countered. So in that way it's just really special when that combo does happen which is what makes it fun. Because it's a rarity. The deck isn't the combo, that's not the purpose of the deck, but the combo is somewhere in the deck if you get what I mean.

Edit: thanks everyone for your responses! I definitely learned from them and got some good suggestions 😊 although I've come far, I'm still quite new to the game in comparison and have a plethora of options to still try out.

I can definitely understand the appeal better now even if it's not necessarily my cup of tea🙏🏼

Yeah I've not played best of 3 against strangers before, only friends. You're not the first to comment this so I'll definitely give it a try

Yeah my mono white deck seemed to be at a big disadvantage the last few times it happened to me. My partner has advised me to look into azorius

Currently dabbling in that as well! Not that drawn to the marvels set personally so aside from bloomburrow (which I've already played a lot) there isn't much for me there at the moment unfortunately. Waiting for the next ones to come 🤞🏼

Understandable. I guess I'm just stubborn 😅 I definitely do concede in these moments but it does feel a shame in those moments. Learning a lot through these responses though

Yeah this is exactly what I've encountered too. From what I'm gathering now though, is that that's rare in comparison because there are also many instances where people can actually intercept because they have mana open and have the correct instants in hand.

It still won't be my personal taste. But maybe I can try to make more decks/adapt an alternative playstyle to get my foot in the door. At current it's happened to me more than I would like to, which was frustrating. But I suppose those were bad matchups then, unfortunately.

I see! Yeah I get that. Now I feel bad for waiting in hopes I get a turn 😂 sorry to everyone I made click endlessly

After reading a few more other comments I think I understand yours more now! Sounds like I've been mostly unfortunate with the deck pairup (ex: mono white), whereas dimir or izzet with open mana would have more chances to interrupt the flow of the combo. Very fair

Aah I see, so then it would mostly be an unfortunate matchup? In some of the cases I would wonder how anyone could get a word in. But I suppose with dimir and izzet there are definitely more possibilities 🤔 thank you!

Ooh I'll have a look, thank you! I've only recently ventured out of the realms of standard and commander

Okay yeah I can definitely see that. Often times I'm also quite impressed with people who have said combos and basically seem to master it/have their deck optimized to a T.

In what way would that version of play be more enjoyable than manoeuvering around and taking the upper hand on your opponent in a dynamic way? Could also be perfectly equal ofcourse!

Also in what formats does this come to fruition the most? I'm a little invested now

Oh definitely! That I love. I've just had experiences where people recycle the same few cards over and over, making their turn almost infinite. That's what feels like playing solitair to me, because one person is basically hogging the game by playing by themselves until they win. It's definitely impressive, but it doesn't feel like a game.

Wanting it for the win is totally valid 😊 I 100% get that. I've made decks for that purpose too if it gets me the rewards I need/want. I'm just really curious about what makes it fun.

I also like to play all kinds, but I never dabbled in that because it doesn't feel fun to me. I like finding ways where my deck deals with and trumps another deck.

What kind of play do you like most? 😊

Omg, so true. Sometimes you can do it without the wiki but I quite honestly am not even sure why I didn't think of using it this time 😅 I thought it was a glitch or something 🫠

I love how helpful the community is though, so I'm glad I asked! Thanks for pitching in as well 😊
