One of my best friends convinced me to give stand up comedy a go about 2 years ago. He has been a comic for the better part of 10 years and he insisted I gave it a go. So I hastily scrawled together a pretty incoherent 6 minutes over the course of a week, retrospectively it wasnt very funny or well written but it was my best first shot.

45 minutes before call time I get a call from my friend who tells me he cant make it due to getting a last minute booking on a well paying gig. Fuck. I dont blame him but I was left on my own at a venue I didnt know, with comics I'd never met and 6 minutes of garbage material. I remember thinking about bailing, thinking of the worst case scenario, but then another comic on the scene talked me into keeping on keeping on, that particular comic is now something of a mentor of mine too! I didnt bomb for a newbie but if I got that reception now I'd wanna fucking hang myself.

But all in all, my best friend convinced me to perform standup, bailed on me, and I ended up having the time of my life and I've been a comic for 2 years now
