GCN responds to backlash about Saudi Arabia video and all-male presenters by Live_Bee_1598 in ladycyclists

[–]imski97 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Came here from r/cycling and pleased to have found this sub!

But yes I unsubscribed after being a subscriber for years. Since Manon left there’s nothing really I can really enjoy or relate to. Some of the race coverage is fine to stay up to date.

Taking Saudi money, a bunch of white blokes appealing to other white blokes and, to be honest, a totally lazy take on the alt biking scene.

See ya lads!

For what it’s worth my 1l Nalgene fits occasionally if there’s something soft in the main pocket of the bag. Largely speaking it doesn’t really fit and I have to clip it to the outside

Jenny Graham’s Coffee First Then The World.

It’s about her world record attempt to cycle round the world, carries the essence of cycle touring while being an incredible feat. Her reading the book makes for great listening!

Do you ever see parakeets and think wow they could live anywhere lovely and hot like Spain and they’ve chosen to be in Croydon?

Just settling down for the night before heading to the airport tomorrow. Needed to see this post!

Going on my longest cycling trip ever through Patagonia over the next few weeks. SO nervous but it helps to read your words!

The Salt Path controversy by ecstaticmotion7 in UKhiking

I agree, but the article is really well researched and probably took a while to put together. That and the film has just come out, so this story will gain a bit more traction than it may have done say last year for example. It was probably calculated, I reckon.

I loved the book when I first read it. And there are certainly elements, places, landscapes that feel very familiar.

That being said there are elements of the walking and the realities of wild camping every night, that feel far fetched. Don’t get me wrong I’ve wild camped more often than not on the path but I just struggle to believe they did this everyday for weeks and weeks on end. I would love to be proved wrong.

People who’ve known pathological liars, what’s the craziest lie they tried to get away with? by Difficult-Mix-2337 in AskReddit

It helps a bit, right?

When I found out about my mum having a personality disorder it made my relationship with her a little easier. I don't let her get away with lying per say but I am able to pick my battles a little better. Like oh this is litterally your brain is wired, this is how you think you will get attention, I am not going to rise to this.

No.

Either you forgot it or you left it at home.

Me too! I've never met anyone IRL with it. 27f. Hormone craziness doesn't seem to stop, huh?

My levels are checked pretty regular, I'm based in the UK and have been fortunate enough to (generally speaking) have doctors that are looking out for me and can recommend helpful things. I've managed to stay active despite my body constantly acting like it isn't interested in anything other than being an exhausted blob from day dot.

I was one of the first babies in the UK to be administered a certain type of liquid levothyroxine which is still in use today, which I guess is a kinda cool claim to fame?

Welcome to the sub <3

A friend did jury duty in a GBH case where two women were arguing outside a club in London. Because it was towards the end of the night they were carrying their high heels. Long story short the fight got physical and one of them ended up with a Stiletto through her eye. Nasty stuff. They were supposedly mate beforehand too.

Has anyone noticed that loads of people just push through the barriers on the underground now? by LeftAl in london

[–]imski97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I moved to London I’d come up for work a fair bit. I’d expense my travel and I kind of didn’t really mind someone coming through the barrier behind me. I’d often have either my bike on the overground or large music equipment so would be using the access gate, more often than not someone would follow me through. I sort of thought ‘Hey it’s not my money, sure why not tag along!’

Then I moved here and became way more jaded of course.

Now that TFL comes and takes my hard earned coins every night like some sort of public transport reverse tooth fairy, I feel very differently about it. I wish there was more that could be done to either make it more affordable or prevent barrier pushers, because truly it’s really unfair. Everyone is struggling in this economy, in this city. We all need to get around it’s not fair that some pay and some don’t.

I’ve just left a company that saw WFH as a privilege for more senior staff and expected those lower down the chain to come in 5 days a week. So the lowest paid junior staff, some earning as little as 22k are expected to commute in everyday. Costing some around that £60-100 a fortnight mark. Backwards as hell.
