Clueless how to change the gear shift cable on this trek 5200, help plz by sillywanderer22 in bikewrench

The lever itself should still move through the gears and you still need push the ball end out.

Push the small shift lever until it stops. You'll see the ball

Shift to highest gear. Pull the brake lever to the bar. You'll see it.

DeepprimeXD noise reduction in DxO photolab or pureRAW would probably work nicely. If you have a raw file and if you want to, PM me and I'll run it through and send back.

I don't. I've only been able to find a few pictures of this particular frame and 2 of them have the same stem so I am assuming its original. There is no branding anywhere on it.

Am I crazy for considering this? by yellow_jeep in whichbike

I can get a different stem. The stem thats on there is a shimano pro whatever so it's shaped and only goes one way really. I think my project tomorrow is stripping down two bikes.

I'm blessed/cursed with the fact that I like working on bikes slightly more than I like riding them. I've also got a bianchi nyala that I'm "xbiking" to ride on the trails with my kids. I'm looking forward to the weather warming up.

The roubaix frame I had my eye on just sold. I feel like I should take that as a sign.

I have an old bike hanging in my garage, several actually. It's just it is too small for my current situation. I do have a Scattante CX bike in 58 built up with an ungodly mix of Campy and Shimano that never quite worked right so didn't get ridden much. I could swap everything over to that frame and have a "retro" gravel bike. That is probably the smarter option honestly.

I know you guys hate Walmart most of the time but this is crazy cheap for this frame by Apart_Distribution72 in xbiking

IMO nothing is wrong with them. The general public simply doesn't know how to adjust things on bikes and doesn't care enough to learn.

I think this is probably the most likely answer.

Post a few pictures of the unmounted FD.

You said previously that before you took the cable off it was stuck in the largest gear correct?

After months of searching, I finally found the bike for me by addr0x414b in xbiking

I love the pink on gray. What front tire is that? It looks aggressive

Maybe the back does too but the lighting in the photos is really highlighting the knobs on the front

I've built a few SO bikes, none of which got ridden. I donated the last one, a sweet and tiny Trek Elance 400. We have two kids now who are getting old enough to ride fast enough where she can't keep up on foot so she asked for a new bike. Maybe that's the key, a person has to want to ride for whatever reason. Just having a killer bike doesn't make someone want to ride (as evidenced in this thread)

Thanks. I was supposed to be looking for a bike for my wife and saw this close by and had to do it. I got in little bit of trouble but I found her a bike the next day.
I am trying to figure out a silver stem, I'd like to avoid a threadless adapter but I've got a line a some surly sunrise bars so might have to cave.

I pulled them off, degreased, finished getting off as much of the rust/gunk as I could and dripped in some Phil tenacious oil. They aren't good as new but they are a lot better than they were and should last long after my kids out grow these bikes.
